First TD Scorer Prop Pick 1: Raheem Mostert, Dolphins (+380)

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert has collected 442 all-purpose yards on 58 carries and 15 receptions in his first five games of the 2023 regular season.

Mostert is tied with Christian McCaffrey for the most touchdowns in the NFL with 8 total, 7 rushing and one receiving.

More importantly, Mostert has recorded a “first touchdown” in Week 2 against the New England Patriots after recording two last season on only a handful of touchdowns.

Teammate De’Von Achane was making a strong case for #1 back in Miami after three straight other-worldly performances but he won’t factor into this game after suffering a knee injury last weekend.

The Carolina Panters run defense is ripe for the picking as they have allowed the 3rd most yards (640) and MOST rushing touchdowns (8) to opposing running backs. The Dolphins will almost surely score first as 13.5-point favorites against the 0-5 Panthers.

The same defense that allowed Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery to score first on a 42-yard scamper just last week.

Obviously, Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle could vulture this first TD as they have in the past. However, with Achane out of the picture, we will ride with Mostert on a +500 projected line based on how vulnerable this defense has been against the run.

First TD Scorer Prop Prediction 2: Kyren Williams, Rams (+390)

Los Angeles Rams second-year running back Kyren Williams has recorded 298 rushing yards on 77 carries and 105 receiving yards on 13 receptions through five games in the 2023 campaign.

Williams is the only player in the NFL with three “team first” touchdowns so far, two of them being the first of the game. The Rams obviously love looking his way in the red area as Williams has already recorded six touchdowns on the season.

The Rams are favored by 7 points over the Arizona Cardinals so they will have the edge in scoring first in this contest.

The Cardinals rank slightly below average with four rushing touchdowns allowed to opposing running backs but have also allowed a league-high four running back touchdowns through the air.

Two other teams have allowed four running back receiving touchdowns, the Denver Broncos & Chicago Bears and no other team has allowed more than one.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford has targeted Williams 24 times and he already found paydirt through the air in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Williams still had first touchdown value last week against the Philadelphia Eagles with +650 odds. This is clearly a better matchup against Arizona so we will roll with a projected line of +600 or better.
