Indianapolis Colts vs Pittsburgh Steelers Analysis

The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Lucas Oil Stadium for a showdown with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night football!

The Colts fell just short last week in a 17-16 defeat at home against the Philadelphia Eagles, dropping their record to 4-6-1 on the season. The Steelers record dipped to 3-7 after losing a shootout 37-30 at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Both teams playoff hopes are on life support so a victory here will be crucial. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM EST/5:15 PST on ESPN.

Saturday On A Monday

The Indianapolis Colts have played with a spark since hiring Jeff Saturday as interim head coach despite the initial uproar over his coaching qualifications.

Saturday has stabilized the offense by starting veteran quarterback Matt Ryan and featuring Johnathan Taylor at running back with 22 carries in back-to-back weeks. After beating the Las Vegas Raiders in Saturdays debut, the Colts fell just short 17-16 last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Colts defense was up to the task against the stacked Eagles offensive attack early the game but couldn’t hold on as they allowed two 4th quarter touchdowns. Indianapolis has been stout on defense throughout the season as they rank 11th in scoring, 12th against the run and 6th against the pass.

Offensively the Colts rank 31st in scoring and 26th in rushing. Saturday has simplified the offense and focused on protecting the ball as they currently rank 31st in turnover differential.

Linebacker Zaire Franklin and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner are both listed as questionable but good news is Buckner logged a full practice on Friday.

Steelers Rebuilding Project

The Pittsburgh Steelers have committed to rookie Kenny Pickett at starting quarterback and he’s shown progress on a weekly basis. Change isn’t a very common theme in Pittsburgh as they have had just three head coaches in the last 60 years.

Pickett threw for for 265 yards and a touchdown last week but the offense stalled out late and fell short 37-30 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Najee Harris had a big day with 20 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns while catching four passes for 26 yards.

Offense has been a struggle for Pittsburgh throughout the season as they rank 28th in scoring and 27th in total offense, however Pickett is starting to build a rapport with the younger receivers like George Pickens.

When you think of the Steelers defense comes to mind but they have been without their leader in the reigning NFL sack leader TJ Wattt. Watt returned last week and should significantly improve a defense that currently ranks 26th in scoring and 31st against the pass.

The Steelers have been stout against the run, ranking 6th in yards allowed. Running back Jaylen Warren (hamstring) and center Mason Cole (foot) are both questionable.

Indianapolis Colts vs Pittsburgh Steelers Player Prop Prediction

The Indianapolis Colts are 2.5 point home favorites over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a total of 39. The Colts look like a different team under Saturday and the have done it with ball control and defense.

Saturday will want to pound the rock with Taylor but the way to exploit the Pittsburgh defense is through the air as they allow the 2nd most receiving yards in the league.

Matt Ryan has looked a lot more comfortable the past few weeks and his passing total is set at 233.5, a number he has cleared in 5 of 9 starts.

The Steelers pass defense has allowed 8 of 10 quarterbacks to surpass this total and the only two to fall short were Andy Dalton and Jacoby Brissett. I’m backing Ryan here on primetime with a low total against a vulnerable pass defense.

Prediction: Matt Ryan Over 233.5 Passing Yards -115 Draftkings
