Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos Predictions

  • Kansas City Chiefs -9.5 vs Denver Broncos
  • Total: 47 Points
  • The Chiefs are 1-5 against the spread at home this season.
  • The under is 9-2 in Denver’s 11 games.

It’s hard to believe, but this game between the Chiefs and Broncos is for the lead in the AFC West as Kansas City is 7-4 and Denver is 6-5 and this is the first meeting of the year between them. If Denver wins, the two teams would be tied with Denver owning the tie breaker, and if the Chiefs emerge as winners they would remain on top and ahead of Denver, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

This game is a Sunday night game in Arrowhead stadium with Kansas City coming off a bye week, and Denver coming off of three wins in their last four games so this game should be intense, electric and a lot of fun for the fans. But can it be good from a wagering perspective? I think so…

The Chiefs are winners of four straight after a slow start to the season, and I may be giving away my official pick early, but I’m not that impressed with this four game win streak, and there are some things that the general public may not take into account before betting this game.

The first win in this four game win streak was against the Giants when the Chiefs needed a late field goal to pull ahead. Next they squeaked out a 13-7 win against a Packers team lead by Jordan Love, followed up by a 41-14 domination of the Raiders, but this game was coming off the Henry Ruggs situation, and the Raiders looked completely disinterested from opening kick. Last game was a 19-9 win against Dallas in a game Amari Cooper was out, CeeDee Lamb left early and Zeke hurt his ankle. Combine those four wins with wins over Washington, Philly and Cleveland and I’m just not that impressed with their wins so far.

Denver is somehow 6-5 on the year despite their lack of passing attack, but they’re doing it with a two headed monster running attack, and with tough defense. For them, it’s been pretty simple…every win they’ve had this season they’ve held the opponent to 13 points or less, and every loss they’ve had this season they’ve allowed 17 points or more. Bridgewater is not winning anyone’s fantasy football league, but he’s been efficient and hasn’t turned the ball over. He’s thrown for under 250 yards in five straight games, but hasn’t thrown an interception in four straight.

I also see a very clear pattern with them the last three games. Two of those games were wins, and in those games they rushed the ball for 33 and 41 times, and in the loss they rushed the ball 18 times. They need to rush the ball in order to have success as they aren’t built for shootouts.

I like what I’ve seen from the Chiefs defense recently as they’ve gotten healthier and Chris Jones has been incredible in this last run. They’ve only allowed 47 points total in this four game streak, and their success in slowing down the Denver rush offense might decide this game. I don’t think they’ll be able to completely shut down the Denver rush attack, and that’s why I like Denver to cover this game.

Teams have had success this season slowing down the Chiefs by doubling Tyreek Hill over the top, and containing Kelce and Denver has only allowed 44 catches to tight ends this season which is 7th best in the NFL. I get a dominant rushing attack, a quarterback not turning the ball over, and a defense that matches up nicely against the strength of the opponent…and I get 10 points? I’ll take it as I see a lower scoring game in a one possession game that will be decided in the 4th quarter.

Official Play: Broncos +10, smaller play on +9.5 but still very much worth a play.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos Analysis from The GoldSheet

When offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur sticks to the basics and allows his infantry to take some pressure off of Teddy Bridgewater, Denver has a better chance to win the field-position game. Remember, Vic Fangio’s schemes caused Patrick Mahomes all sorts of trouble last December at Arrowhead, and Patrick Chubb just returned to active duty for Denver after two months on the shelf.

While the Chiefs seem to have straightened out their season with four straight wins, Mahomes is still well off of last year’s numbers, and KC has scored more than 20 just once in its current uptick. Steve Spagnuolo has reignited the pass rush behind the rejuvenated Chris Jones (3.5 sacks of Dak Prescott in KC’s last outing).
