Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Predictions

  • Kansas City Chiefs -9.5 vs Las Vegas Raiders
  • Total: 48 Points
  • Kansas City is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight home games as a 7+ point favorite.

Two teams that have been strange this season to figure out face off in Kansas City.  Josh Jacobs was quoted as saying they start out “Stiff and Dull”, and that “I think we kind of just coast a little too much”.  Not a ringing endorsement of the team after putting up 15 points against Washington.

The Chiefs are piling up wins as they have five in a row, but the wins certainly don’t feel like a team ready for a Super Bowl.  One score games against the Giants and then Jordan Love, a big win against these Raiders, then a 10 pint win against a Dallas team with no Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb for the second half followed up by a 22-9 bizarre win over Denver in which Denver moved the ball but didn’t have the points to match it.  Neither team has been impressive, but one is looking towards a playoff run, and the other looks like it’s losing steam and faces five tough games in a row starting with the Chiefs.  The line is -9.5 and the total is 48…so what’s the play that cashes a ticket?

The struggles of Mahomes and the Chiefs offense this season has been a hot topic this season and it seems like everyone has an opinion.  The defense is taking away Tyreek Hill deep…Mahomes isn’t in rhythm…the Chiefs can’t run the balll…we’ve heard it all.  I don’t know exactly what’s wrong, I just know they don’t look good, and they’re 13th in the league in scoring just 2.5 points a game ahead of Las Vegas.  However, their defense is stepping up with a bend but don’t break mentality and the numbers don’t lie…they’ve given up 17 or fewer points in five straight games.

The Raiders are having problems of their own on offense as they’ve had one productive game out of the last five and that was the Thanksgiving game against Dallas.  Since their bye week they have one game over 16 points, and since we have a Raiders team struggling on offense that is playing a defense that is hitting its stride, I don’t see a big points day from Las Vegas.  Combine that with a Kansas City offense who isn’t clicking and it’s a nice recipe for an under.

Denver showed you can run on Kansas City and they’ll be ok giving up yards, but not points.  The Raiders should utilize Josh Jacobs a lot to try and control the clock and if they have some success we’ll see time come off the clock.  Kansas City has discovered the beauty of the check down over the last month instead of forcing the deep ball, and we’ve seen six games out of seven go under for the Chiefs.  I expect a game similar to the script of the Denver-Kansas City game which was a 31 point game and an easy under.

OFFICIAL PLAY:  UNDER 48

Kansas City Chiefs vs Las Vegas Raiders Analysis from The GoldSheet

Las Vegas allowed Washington to rally for a win Sunday, losing 17-15 despite holding a lead in the 4th Q, winning the turnover battle, outgaining the Football Team and for once not committing more penalties than the opposition. Raider QB Derek Carr completed 28 of 38 passes for 249 yds., but couldn’t get into the endzone and appeared to miss injured TE Darren Waller (knee; iffy for this one) and lost top tackler LB Denzel Perryman to an ankle injury and 2nd leading rusher Kenyan Drake (ankle) in the process. Kansas City took care of business, though not too comfortably, in a 22-9 victory against Denver Sunday night, winning its 5th straight game despite Chief QB Patrick Mahomes (again) not having his best performance by a long shot. Mahomes completed just 15 of 29 passes for 184 yds. with an interceptions, also running for a 10-yard TD to open the scoring, but by this stage the ongoing offensive short-circuit is beyond just a brief slump for Andy Reid’s attack.

Thankfully for KC, the defense has only allowed 39 pts. over the last 4 games (allowed 1 TD or fewer in each game), contributing a 75-yard pick-six to put Denver away Sunday. Still, Vegas might be helped by Waller’s return, and the Chiefs have dropped 7 of their last 8 at home when favored by 7 points or more, and are just 3-10 against the number last 13 at Arrowhead at any price. Another constant in this has been an “under” trend for KC at home, which has cashed 7 straight when the Chiefs are a TD+ home chalk and this series is 12-3-1 “under” when these two tangle in Arrowhead.

Play Las Vegas and the Under.
