Miami Dolphins vs New York Giants Predictions

  • Miami Dolphins -6 vs New York Giants
  • Total: 40 Points
  • The Giants are 12-3 against the spread in their last 15 games as a road underdog.
  • The under is 5-0-1 in the Giants’ last six games, while the under is 4-1 in Miami’s last five games.

The Giants (4-7, 6-5 ATS) aren’t going to make a playoff run, so it seems foolish to mess with the long-term health of their franchise quarterback, who was the No. 6 pick of the 2019 draft. Mike Glennon will get the start for a New York team that hasn’t won consecutive games this season, last doing so during weeks 12 and 13 of last season in improving to 5-7.

If you’re wondering whether the Giants have made much progress in Joe Judge’s second season, that should serve as your answer. It hasn’t helped that Saquon Barkley hasn’t looked 100 percent in any game this season or that the receiving corps has been decimated by injuries on a weekly basis, but the old adage that you are what your record says you are should clue you in that New York needs a big December to generate confidence that things are headed in the right direction under the current regime.

New York’s defense has made great strides under Patrick Graham and has really been the only reason that the Giants have even been in games over the past month-plus. Only the Bucs have scored more than 20 points against the NYG defense over the past five games, and all three victories in that span came as a result of a dominant performance from that side of the ball. The Giants are 4-1 against the number and 5-0 to the under since Oct. 24, defeating Carolina 24-6, Las Vegas 23-16 and Philadelphia 13-7.

The offense didn’t make many inroads in its first game with Freddie Kitchens running the offense following Jason Garrett’s firing, and even though Barkley is getting healthier and offseason acquisition Kenny Golladay is also making more of an impact, neither looks like their old selves.

Miami (5-7, 6-5-1 ATS) is looking for a fifth straight win, which would mark the second straight season Brian Flores’ team has accomplished that, but there’s no question this particular run has come out of nowhere. Last year’s surge came after a 1-3 start.

This season’s success has arrived after the Dolphins opened 1-7 and critics were openly wondering whether Miami’s third-year head coach would last the season. Following Sunday’s 33-10 rout of Carolina, there’s now talk that the team could find a way to reach the playoffs since they’ve pulled within 1.5 games of the No. 7 spot currently shared by the Chargers, Broncos and Raiders at 6-5.

The Fins get a week off after this one thanks to a bye before hosting the Jets, so they’re actually favored to get back to .500 for the first time since September. Tua Tagovailoa comes off one of his best performances since being drafted, completing 27 of 31 passes despite receivers DeVante Parker and Will Fuller IV remaining sidelined. Rookie Jaylen Waddle had a 100-yard game wrapped up by halftime and RB Myles Gaskin scored a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins defense surrendered 10 or fewer points for the third time in four games. That’s bad news for a Giants team that has scored 17 or fewer points in four of the last six and only held on for a victory against the Eagles on Sunday because Jalen Reagor’s issues with drops continued at the worst possible time.

Although Fuller will miss a 10th straight game and appears to be a bust as Miami’s top offseason acquisition, Parker is expected back from a hamstring injury to take some pressure off Waddle and tight end Mike Gesicki.

Look for the Giants to become Miami’s next victim and lay the points as they’ll continue their spread-covering streak as well, wasting another opponent by seven points or more.
