New England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills Preview
The Buffalo Bills visit Gillette Stadium to kickoff Week 13 of the NFL Schedule against the New England Patriots on Thursday night football. The Patriots lost a 33-26 shootout on the road against the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving night.
The Bills played the early game on Thanksgiving and beat the Detroit Lions 28-25 on a last second field goal. This is the first of two games between division rivals that will meet again on January 8th in Buffalo.
The Bills won 33-21 on December 26th in the most recent regular season matchup while also crushing New England 47-17 in the AFC Wild Card game. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM EST/5:15 PST.
Bills Eye Third Straight Victory
The Buffalo Bills improved to 8-3 on the season after winning their second game in Detroit in the span of five days 28-25 over the Lions. It was a back-and-forth game with eight ties or lead changes.
Josh Allen threw for 253 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while also running for 78 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Isaiah McKenzie was his leading receiver with 6 grabs for 96 yards and a touchdown.
The Bills are second in the league in scoring offense with 28.1 points per game while ranking #3 in passing and 8th in rushing. Buffalo isn’t to shabby on defense either, where they rank 5th with only 18.1 points allowed per game.
Josh Allen leads this team in passing and running with 3,183 yards, 23 touchdowns & 11 interceptions through the air and 561 yards & five touchdowns on the ground. Linebacker Von Miller has already been ruled out after a knee injury on Thanksgiving.
Several are questionable due to illness including safeties Damar Hamlin & Jaquan Johnson, cornerback Dane Jackson and tight end Quintin Morris. A big plus was linebacker Tremaine Edmunds returning to practice after missing the last two games with a groin & heel injury.
Patriot Games
The New England Patriots record dipped to 6-5 on the season which puts them in last place in a loaded AFC East despite having a winning record.
The Patriots had won three straight and five of their last six games prior to the wake up call in Minnesota. New England ended the 3rd quarter with a 26-23 lead only to be outscored 10-0 in the final frame and end up with a loss.
The Patriots out gained the Vikings by nearly 50 yards but lost the time of possession battle 36:17 to 23.43. The Pats offense scores 21.7 points per game good for 18th in the league while ranking 19th in passing & 23rd in rushing.
Quarterback Mac Jones has experienced some growing pains in what could be a sophomore slump with six touchdowns & seven interceptions on the season. Jones has been running for his life as he’s been sacked 24 times.
The Patriot defense is elite, they holding opponents to 21.7 points per game ranking 6th in the NFL. Running back Damien Harris (thigh) and tackle Isaiah Wynn (foot) are both expected to miss this contest.
Center David Andrews (calf) and wide receivers DeVante Parker (knee) & Jakobi Meyers (shoulder) are all questionable.
New England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills Prediction
The Buffalo Bills are 3.5 point road favorites over the New England Patriots with a total set at 43.5. This game will be one of the more entertaining matchups on Thursday night football in some time between two battling for position in the AFC East.
Josh Allen always seem to bring his A-game against the Patriots and his passing yards total is set at 268.5. The Patriots defense is elite and they do a amazing job shutting down the pass, but look at who they have faced.
Quarterbacks like Jared Goff, Sam Ehlinger, Mitchell Trubisky and Zach Wilson have fallen well short of this total while more talented quarterbacks like Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins and Jacoby Brissett have flown over the total.
Heck, even Zach Wilson threw for 355 in one of his two chances against New England. What it comes down to is volume and I see Allen throwing as the Patriots put a spy on him to shut down his rushing attack.
I don’t see much from Devin Singletary on the ground either. Allen has thrown for 300+ yards in 3 of his last 4 starts against the Pats with 320, 145, 314 and 308 passing yards. The 145 yard outlier was the notorious “wind game” where opposing quarterback Mac Jones literally attempted only three passes.
Allen is always aggressive against New England and there won’t be any weather issues whatsoever. We get a nice low passing total to take advantage of based on how dominant the Patriots defense has been.
Prediction: Josh Allen Over 268.5 Passing Yards -115 Draftkings
