New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins Predictions
- New York Jets +3 vs Miami Dolphins
- Total: 44.5 Points
- Miami has covered the spread in each of the last six meetings between these teams.
The Miami Dolphins travel to New York to square off against the Jets on Sunday afternoon for a divisional marquee matchup. Of course I say that tongue in cheek as these are actually two of leagues bottom feeders. The New York Jets are 2-7 straight up as well as against the spread while the Miami Dolphins are 3-7 SU and 4-5-1 ATS. While theses teams have similar records they seem to be heading in quite different directions based on recent results. The Dolphins are road favorites with a -3 spread and the over/under is set at 44.5.
The Miami Dolphins are coming of an impressive 22-10 win against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football. Tua Tagovailoa began the game on the bench due to a finger injury and ended up replacing Jacoby Brissett after he was injured with the score 6-3. Brissett seemed ready to return, however Brian Flores decided to stick with Tagovailoa who ended the game 8 for 13 for 158 passing yards and a 104 QB rating. Brissett was comparable going 11 for 23 for 158 yards and 70.2 QB rating, neither player threw a touchdown or interception.
Head coach Brian Flores was obviously impressed with Tagovailoa saying “he did really good out there, some throws I’m sure he wishes he had back but overall he helped us win the game.” Flores has since officially named Tagovailoa the starter, which seems to give Miami their best chance to win. The Miami defense ranks near the bottom of the league but have played very well during the last two weeks. The Dolphins will also have a rest advantage and extra time to prepare after playing on Thursday night.
The New York Jets have been historically bad recently, especially defensively. The Jets were thrashed 45-17 by the visiting Buffalo Bills in Week 10, allowing 45 points or more for the third time in four games which is the first time that’s happened since 1966. On the season the Jets have been outscored by 145 points, which is the most in the league. The Mike White experience seems to be coming to an end after his four interceptions on Sunday against Buffalo. It’s seems unfair as he was exposed against a stingy Bills defense that has humbled many other quarterbacks.
The Dolphins dominated the series against the Jets last season winning 24-0 at home and 20-3 in New York. The Dolphins have some momentum and they also have a boost from Tagovailoa being re-inserted into the starting quarterback role. The Dolphins will have extra time to prepare and will be up against a vulnerable Jets defense. Regardless of who starts at quarterback for New York it’s tough to have any faith in them against a Miami team that’s playing well of late. I’ll lay the 3 points and make the Miami Dolphins my official play here.
Official Play: Miami Dolphins -3 (-120)

New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins Analysis from The GoldSheet
Brian Flores seems to have turned around the Miami battleship in Biscayne Bay with back-to-back wins, and Tua involved in a handful of big plays last Thursday vs. the Ravens to suggest he’s been listening to all of the Deshaun Watson rumors (which likely revive again the conclusion of the season). With wins and covers in two straight, the Dolphins are on a mini-uptick, and remember that Flores has covered all six chances vs. the Jets the past three seasons. Play Miami.
