QB Prop Prediction 1: Derek Carr, Saints Over 265.5 Passing Yards (Projected Total) – O/U Passing QB Props Pick
New Orleans Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr is coming off a season where he threw 3,522 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with the Vegas Raiders during the 2022 campaign.
Carr only recorded 266+ passing yards in four of his 15 starts during that season. However, he now has a fresh start with new weapons including last season’s first-round draft pick Chris Olave who recorded 1,042 receiving yards last season along with an up-and-coming tight end in Juwan Johnson.
The Tennesse Titans pas defense was historically bad last season as they allowed the most passing yards (274.8/game) and the second-most passing touchdowns with a total of 27. The Titans didn’t even attempt to improve their pass defense in the draft as they used all six of their selections on offensive players.
They were also one of the best against the run, ranking first with only 76.9 rushing yards per game. Carr as averaged 281.2 passing yards per game in the five times he faced the Tennessee with his lowest total being 249 yards.
Now he will be playing on the fast track of the climate-controlled Caesar’s Superdome. This QB props play checks just about every box for a player prop during a Week 1 that can bring a lot of uncertainty. Not quite a no-brainer QB props prediction, but a pretty close one.
QB Prop Prediction 2: Brock Purdy, 49ers Over 1.5 Passing TDs +124 (DraftKings)
San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 1,374 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and only four interceptions during his seven regular season starts in the 2022 season.
More importantly, Purdy recorded 2+ touchdown passes in each and every one of those seven games. The only thing that could derail this streak was injuries that forced Purdy out of the game.
Tight end George Kittle is questionable for this contest with a groin injury, but Purdy still has plenty of weapons at his disposal including speedy wide-outs Deebo Samuel & Brandon Aiyuk and pass-catching back Christian McCaffrey.
The Pittsburgh Steelers tied for the second-most passing touchdowns (29) with Arizona, Tampa Bay and Tennessee, only Kansas City allowed more with 33.
They also hovered around the top-10 when it came to defending the run. There is a slight chance of some rain in Pittsburgh on Sunday, but wind doesn’t seem to be an issue. The 49er receivers could also utilize their speed to leave defenders in the dust.
The Steelers did revamp their defense at the linebacker and cornerback position, but they still have plenty questions marks, and they felt the need to sign cornerback Desmond King just last week. Regardless, this Purdy prop was a perfect 7-0 last season, and we get +124 odds.
