Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers Betting Analysis
Division rivals collide in the post-season as the Seattle Seahawks travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers on Wild Card weekend. The 49ers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 38-13 in the final week of the regular season to finish the season 13-4.
The Seattle Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 to finish with a 9-8 mark. San Francisco prevailed in both head-to-head meetings 27-7 in Week 2 and 21-13 in Week 15. Kickoff is slated for Saturday afternoon at 4:30 PM EST/1:30 PST.
Purdy Season For Niners
The San Francisco 49ers were able to finish the season with a 13-4 record despite losing two starting quarterbacks to injury during the regular season. They figure to be in the mix for a 6th Super Bowl title as they enter the post-season as the #2 seed in the NFC.
San Francisco averaged 26.5 points (6th most) and 365.6 total yards (5th most) per game. Brock Purdy took over as the teams starting quarterback in Week 13 after Jimmy Garoppola suffered a foot fracture on December 4th.
Christian McCaffrey paced the Niners in rushing with 746 yards and 6 touchdowns despite only joining the team in Week 12 after being acquired from the Carolina Panthers.
He also added 464 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Brandon Aiyuk led San Fran in receiving with 78 receptions, 1015 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Defense has been their calling card as they surrender the fewest points and total yards with 16.3 and 300.6 yards respectively. Nick Bosa was the 2022 Sack King with 18.5 quarterback sacks while Fred Warner led the team in tackles with 130.
Seahawks Playing With House Money
The Seattle Seahawks seem to have overachieved after finishing with a 9-8 record despite parting ways with Russell Wilson prior to the season.
Wilson & Denvers missteps will benefit his former team as they will be receiving the #5 draft pick due to the Broncos finishing 5-12 on the 2022-23 campaign.
The haul for Wilson included two first round picks, two second round picks, a 5th round pick, tight end Noah Fant, quarterback Drew Lock and defensive end Shelby Harris.
The Seahawks offense averaged 23.9 points and 351.5 total yards per game, ranking 23rd & 24th respectively. Geno Smith led the aerial attack with 4,282 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Rookie running back Kenneth Walker III ran for 1,050 rushing yards with 9 touchdowns. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett had eerily similar seasons as Metcalf had 90 receptions 1,048 yards and 6 touchdowns while Lockett caught 84 balls for 1,033 yards and 9 touchdowns.
The Seattle defense rank 26th with 23.6 points allowed per game and 25th in yards allowed with 361.7 per game.
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks led the team with 161 tackles but won’t be available for this contest due to a knee injury. Running back DeeJay Dallas and defensive end Shelby Harris are both listed as questionable.
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers Prediction
The San Francisco 49ers are heavy home favorites with a spread of 9.5 and a total set at 42.5. These are two teams who are very familiar with one and other as they are NFC West Divisional rivals.
Both have overachieved based on pre-season expectations. The 49ers overcame two starting quarterback injuries and Brock Purdy was a big part of that.
The rookie quarterback is 5-0 as a starter and has excelled in the red area. Purdy has been remarkably consistent when it comes to throwing touchdown passes as he threw exactly two TDs in every start until last week where he threw three.
He threw two TD passes against the Seahawks in Week 15 despite not having the services of wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
The Seahawks are middle of the pack in passing touchdowns allowed but are one the leagues worst at defending tight ends.
George Kittle has been on quite the tear recently as he is coming off a two touchdown game. Purdy over 1.5 touchdown passes at even money seems just too good to “pass” up.
