Trevor Lawrence of Jaguars attempts to pass NFL football

Weekend Football Betting Preview

WagerTalk football handicapper Ben Burns offers analysis on games that just missed his college football Week 10 and NFL Week 9 betting card. College Football Week 10 Betting Leans

Wisconsin -5 vs. Maryland – I believe that the Badgers will be able to run the ball effectively. They rushed for more than 500 combined yards the last two times that they hosted the Terps, winning by 25 and 45.

The Badgers haven’t been great at sacking opposing QB’s and they gave up 320 yards through the air to Purdue. I’m still deciding but respect for the Terps offense may keep me off.

Nebraska +14.5 vs. Minnesota – I’d normally love to get more than two touchdowns with Nebraska. However, uncertainty about the QB situation has given me pause.

The Huskers were rolling along against Illinois but the game changed instantly when Casey Thompson got hurt. They clearly aren’t the same team without him. The last two meetings were both decided by seven points.

I expect the Huskers to give their best effort but if Thompson (game-time decision) can’t go, I’m not sure they’ll be able to score enough points to keep up. I’ll continue to monitor his status.

NFL Week 9 Betting Leans

NY Jets +11.5 vs. Buffalo – Against any other team in the league I’d be happy to get double-digits with the Jets at home. I’m not ready to step in front of the steamroller known as the Bills though.

Recall that Buffalo won 45-17 here last season. I think the line is generous and that the value is there but I’m still passing.

Tampa Bay -3 vs. Los Angeles Rams – The Bucs can’t keep losing. Can they? If they were playing another team, or potentially even if LA was off a victory last week, I’d be looking to back the Bucs here. Respect for the Rams has me thinking twice though. Off three losses in four games, the champs are going to be every bit as hungry as their hosts. Pass.

Jacksonville +1.5 vs. Las Vegas – I continue to be impressed by the Jacksonville offense. The Jaguars rank 9th in terms of total yards per game and 11th in terms of total yards per play. They’re only 20th when it comes to scoring points though.

It’s the defense which is more concerning though. Jacksonville ranks 18th in terms of yards allowed per game. That’s due, in no small part, to a propensity to miss tackles. With the Jags off a game in Europe, I’m going to look at this total instead of the side.
