Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles Preview

The Commanders are 1-1 after a disappointing 36-27 loss in Detroit against the Lions. The Eagles improved to 2-0 on Monday night with a 24-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in dominant fashion.

This will be the first of two regular season meetings between these squads as they meet again on November 14th in Philadelphia. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm ET / 10am PT as part of the Sunday early afternoon slate. Philadelphia has climbed to a 6-point road favorite, with the total sitting at 47 points.

Eagles Soar On Monday Night Football

The Philadelphia Eagles have opened the 2022 season with two wins after a wire-to-wire 24-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. The Eagles beat the Lions in Week 1 after letting them sneak back into the game late. The Eagles led 38-21 entering the fourth quarter but ended up having to cling to a 38-35 victory.

After two weeks Philadelphia has the No. 5-ranked offense with a average of 470.5 yards a game including 189.5 yards per game on the ground. Jalen Hurts has looked sharp leading to offense with 576 yards through the air and 147 yards on the ground. Hurts has cleared his rushing yard total in both games to open the season.

Miles Sanders has started the season on the right foot, clearing his rushing yards total with 96 yards in Week 1 and 80 yards in Week 2.

Commanders Look To Leapfrog Eagles In The East

The Washington Commanders kicked off their season with a 28-22 come-from-behind victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Commanders stormed back with 14 points in the fourth quarter as Carson Wentz threw for 313 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

In Week 2 they found themselves down 22-0 to the Detroit Lions at halftime. Once again, they owned the second half but ultimately fell short and lost 36-27. Wentz went for 337 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Curtis Samuel was his top receiver with seven grabs for 78 yards and a touchdown.

Antonio Gibson was the leading receiver Week 1 with seven catches for 72 yards. Gibson became a popular Week 2 play for over on rushing, receiving or the combo of both. However, he fell flat in Week 2 with only 41 all-purpose yards.

After two games, the Commanders are 29th in both points scored and points allowed, which is eye-opening considering they played lower-ranked teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.

Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles Best Bet

The Eagles have looked like one of the league’s elite and their offense should be able to do plenty of damage against a vulnerable Commanders defense. I could see using Philadelphia as a teaser piece, however, we will look at this game from a player props perspective.

Eagles’ tight end Dallas Goedert has eclipsed his receiving yards total with three catches for 60 yards in Week 1 and five grabs for 82 yards on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.

Goedert has upped his game since last season when Zach Ertz was traded to Arizona at the deadline. He cleared his receiving yard total in five of the last seven weeks of the season if you include his six receptions for 92 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Playoffs. Two of those games were against the Washington Commanders, where Goedert had six receptions for 71 yards and seven receptions for 135 yards.

Goedert’s receiving yard total is set low at 46.5 yards on Sunday. The combination of his recent success and the Commanders’ defensive issues should easily push him up and over this number. Play Dallas Goedert OVER 46.5 receiving yards, which is available at -115 at DraftKings.
