Buffalo Sabres vs Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis
The Edmonton Oilers have picked up the pace over in the Pacific across recent games, reeling off four wins from their previous six before a 7-5 rollercoaster loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
The Oilers held the lead at two different points in that game but the Jets weren’t to be denied, scoring four goals in just 13 minutes midway through the second period to take a lead that they never relinquished.
The Buffalo Sabres meanwhile bounced back with a win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday after recording back-to-back losses against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Boston Bruins respectively prior to that.
Buffalo were outshot in that game by Tampa but fell back on a shot-conversion percentage that has seen them rank 3rd in the league this season at 11.53%.
This will be the second and final meeting between the two teams this year after the Sabres beat the Oilers 4-2 in Edmonton back at the start of the season.
That’s a trend that’s been consistent across recent meetings as well, with Buffalo winning four of their last five head-to-heads against the Oilers.
Oilers Hi-Octane Offense Being Drowned Out By Lackluster Defense
Despite a hat-trick from Leon Draisaitl in Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton were undone at the back once again, giving up five or more goals to opponents for the eighth time this calendar year.
The Oilers’ 29th-ranked opponent high-danger conversion percentage this season is a major contributing factor to that, and something that drastically needs to be worked on if Edmonton are going to make a deep playoff run this year.
Buffalo Make Playoff Push
Just three points now separate the Buffalo Sabres from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the race for the final wild card spot in the East, and with six wins from their last nine games overall, Buffalo are certainly getting hot at the right time.
Goaltender Eric Comrie, who posted a sub-par .884 SV% pre-All-Star game, now looks to have stepped up his game in nets recently, and with the combination of him and an excellent Craig Anderson this season, Buffalo could well be a force moving forward.
Buffalo Sabres vs Edmonton Oilers Expert Prediction
Despite their recent resurgence in a bid to make the playoffs, the Buffalo Sabres have been poor at home this season, registering a 13-16-2 record inside the KeyBank Center.
That’s a major concern ahead of this one as, like Buffalo, Edmonton have been far better away from home this season than they have been at home, posting an 18-10-3 mark on the road this year.
Buffalo’s 28th-ranked defensive xGA numbers are also a major concern in this one, and in a hi-octane battle between two offensive teams, we’d prefer to have the Oilers on side in this one given their overall firepower.
Take the Edmonton Oilers to win outright on the road on Monday against the Buffalo Sabres.
