Buffalo Sabres vs New Jersey Devils Betting Analysis
The New Jersey Devils will look to steady the ship on Friday as they face a team who know all about choppy waters of late themselves in the Buffalo Sabres.
The Devils have lost four of their last five games overall but are still within two points of the Carolina Hurricanes in the race for playoff seeding this year.
The Sabres meanwhile, despite looking like they might have a shot of making the playoffs earlier in the season, have since fallen well off the pace, dropping 10 of their last 12 games overall.
This will be the second of three meetings between the two teams this season after New Jersey took game one in Buffalo 3-1 back at the end of November.
That’s been pretty much par for the course over the last few seasons as well with New Jersey winning five straight games against Buffalo in KeyBank Center.
Devils Need To Get Back To Defense
New Jersey have had a rough time of it on defense over recent games, allowing at least four goals in three of their last five starts overall.
That’s been a far cry from their season-long numbers however, with the Devils ranking 5th in scoring defense this season at 2.66 GAPG, 5th in shots allowed at 28.27 SAPG, and 5th on power-play goals allowed also at 36 PPGA.
Buffalo’s Worrying Manner Of Defeats
While you can unequivocally state losing 10 of your last 12 games overall is never an ideal position to be in, at least if the performances were somewhat competitive you can take green shoots of optimism from those and move forward.
However, that hasn’t been the case for Buffalo of late as they’ve allowed at least seven goals across their last two starts in all, with six of those ten recent losses coming via multiple-goal margins also.
Buffalo Sabres vs New Jersey Devils Expert Prediction
It’s a high line here on Friday on the road favorites no doubt, but it’s for good reason as Buffalo’s defense has arguably gotten even worse across recent starts than their already poor season-long numbers suggest.
The Sabres sit 26th, 27th & 29th this season respectively in high-danger chances allowed, defensive xGA, and scoring defense (3.73 GAPG).
They gave up 14 goals combined across just their last two starts as well, we just don’t see how they limit a New Jersey Devils team in this one that managed to put five goals past Tampa Bay in their previous road game.
Take the New Jersey Devils to win outright on the road against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.
