Carolina Hurricanes vs Florida Panthers Betting Analysis

The Florida Panthers got back to winning ways on Thursday night with a 7-2 destruction of the Montreal Canadiens on home ice, but that success has been few and far between for the Panthers this season as they’ve won just eight of their last twenty games overall since the middle of November.

They go on the road here on Friday to face one of the league’s best teams right now in the Carolina Hurricanes, with the Hurricanes coming off their ninth straight victory on Tuesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks and continuing to narrow the gap on the leading Boston Bruins at the top of the conference.

The two sides have faced each other once already this season with the Florida Panthers coming out on top with a 3-0 victory over the Hurricanes on home ice back in early November.

Despite Carolina outshooting Florida in that game, goals from Nick Cousins, Aleksander Barkov, and Sam Bennett were enough to secure the win for the Panthers.

Panthers Not Converting Dominance In Data

With the Florida Panthers owning the league’s 2nd best offensive xG this season, along with ranking just outside the top ten in defensive xGA as well, you’d imagine they’d be in pretty good shape in the league right now.

However, the Panthers have posted a sub-10% shot conversion percentage this season in attack and rank 21st on scoring defense this year also, as they’ve continued to fail to turn their statistical dominance this season into actual results on the ice.

Carolina On Shutdown Defense

“Can’t shoot, can’t score” has obviously been one of the Carolina Hurricanes mantras this season as no team is allowing fewer shots on goal this season to opponents than the Hurricanes currently are.

Carolina also owns the league’s #1 opponent high-danger conversion percentage this season at a ridiculously low 4.7% on average. As a comparison, the league average is over double that and even Florida’s 9.2% average is well above that also.

Even with Florida’s solid underlying data this season, plus the fact we do expect them to turn things around at some point, we simply can’t step in front of this red-hot Carolina Hurricanes team right now with the way they’re playing.

Carolina’s numbers have been electric over December so far and on top of that, they have a fantastic head-to-head record against this Florida Panthers team at home as well, going 36-15-2 in their last 53 meetings against them in this venue. Take the Carolina Hurricanes to win in regulation on Friday in their matchup against the Florida Panthers over in Raleigh.
