Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Rangers Analysis
Home advantage has been a key factor over this series so far with both sides holding home serve ahead of a pivotal Game 5 over in Raleigh tonight.
Carolina took the opening two games of the series at home with two competitive wins over the Rangers before New York stormed back with two wins in the Garden to make it all square ahead of Game 5.
The Hurricanes owned a 3-1 advantage over the Rangers over the course of the regular season, but that one win did take place in Raleigh with a 2-0 victory for New York back in March.
Shesterkin Back To His Best
After a couple of rocky starts against Pittsburgh in the last round, Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin looks to be back to his best in this series against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Russian goalie has allowed just 2 goals total over his last two starts and has topped that off with a red-hot .973 SV% average over both of those starts also.
Shesterkin has had a phenomenal 2021/22 season so far, ranking as the league’s #1 goalie on GSAA average and SV%, with the Vezina Trophy favorite seemingly only getting better as the postseason wears on.
Carolina’s Fortress PNC Arena
The Carolina Hurricanes finished up the regular season with one of the leagues best overall home records, finishing up the year with a rock solid 29-8-4 mark inside PNC Arena this season, but that dominance hasn’t been restricted to just the regular season.
The Hurricanes have won every single one of their home games this post-season, and lost all of their road games, needing all seven games to get past the Boston Bruins in the last round as a result.
The same could well happen in this second round also, especially given Carolina’s red-hot 44-16 mark across their last 60 home games in North Carolina.
Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Rangers Game 5 Prediction
Despite how good the Rangers have looked at home over recent games, and the outstanding performance of Shesterkin in both of those wins as well, we’re looking towards the Carolina side of the ledger tonight and for the Hurricanes to hold home serve in Oak City.
The Carolina Hurricanes averaged the best defense in the league this season and their playoff numbers aren’t far behind that outstanding record, with Carolina sitting only just behind Tampa in terms of goals allowed per game this postseason out of any team still left in the playoffs.
Not only that, but the Hurricanes were top ten in expected goals this year on offense and have outscored their opposition 22-7 at home over the course of the playoffs so far.
Take the Carolina Hurricanes to bounce back with a win tonight in Raleigh as they look to take a 3-2 series lead over the New York Rangers.
Prediction: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline -155
