Carolina Hurricanes vs Tampa Bay Lightning Analysis
Two of the most successful teams in the Eastern Conference clash over in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday as the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Metropolitan leading Carolina Hurricanes later tonight in a huge matchup.
However, it’s been far from plain sailing for either team of late as the Lightning enter Tuesday’s game winning just two of their last six games overall, while the Hurricanes are currently on their longest losing run of the season so far, dropping four straight games.
The Lightning and Hurricanes have faced off against one another once already this season with Carolina edging out Tampa Bay 2-1 in OT down in Florida back in November.
Tampa Bay’s Slowing Offense
For a team with the 5th highest connect percentage in the league this season in terms of shots to goal rate, posting an 11.02% hit rate this season, the Tampa Bay Lightning have sure made hard work of it in front of goal over their last few starts.
The Lightning have averaged just 1.8 goals per game across their last five starts as they’ve got outshot in three of those five games also and face a Carolina Hurricanes team tonight averaging the best goals allowed defense in the league this season.
Carolina Looking to Rebound off Longest Losing Streak of the Season
Carolina will look to rebound off their longest losing streak of the season on Tuesday against a team in Tampa Bay who dumped them out of the playoffs last year.
Tampa Bay very nearly almost swept Carolina in that conference second round series last year and while Carolina have already got some modicum of revenge this season against the Lightning, ending their current losing streak at home against them tonight should give the Hurricanes some added motivation in this one.
Carolina Hurricanes vs Tampa Bay Lightning Prediction
We like Carolina on Tuesday to snap their losing streak with an outright win at home against Tampa Bay tonight.
While Carolina haven’t seen results go their way of late, their overall passage of play in games has continued to impress.
The Hurricanes outshot the New York Rangers 44 to 18 in Sunday’s 2-0 loss at home and they achieved similar against Toronto last Thursday night as well, outshooting the Leafs by 15 in that one.
Carolina are averaging the third most high danger scoring opportunities in the league this season while Tampa Bay rank bottom half in opponent high danger conversion rate this year.
With Frederik Andersen expected in net tonight for Carolina as well, we’re going to ride with the Hurricanes in this one to get the outright win at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

Hockey Betting 101 | What is the Puckline?
The puckline is hockey’s version of the point spread. When betting on the puckline, the favorite is -1.5 goals on the spread, with the underdog at +1.5 goals. Betting on the favorite requires your team to win its game by two or more goals. Conversely, betting on the underdog at +1.5 means that your team can either win the game or lose by one goal, and your ticket will still cash.
Since the majority of hockey betting is built around the moneyline, casual bettors might be turned off by laying larger prices with the top teams in the league. Instead of laying -200 or -250 on a strong favorite, a more attractive option might be laying -1.5 goals at a more reasonable price point. Conversely, it can be hard to pull the trigger on a +200 underdog that’s expected to lose their game over 60% of the time. Well, it gets a little easier to put your money on them if you’re getting a +1.5 goal head start.
