Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Analysis

The Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche will look to do it all over again tonight after a pulsating Game 1 which saw both teams hit at least six goals apiece.

After a thrilling opening which saw five goals scored in just the opening period, Colorado looked to be in control late in the 2nd after an Andrew Cogliano goal put the hosts up 7-3 to the good.

However, the Oilers weren’t going down without a fight and a Connor McDavid led comeback got Edmonton to within one goal late before a Gabriel Landeskog winner finally put the game to bed for the Avalanche in the final seconds.

Oilers Are Dangerous When Hot

Despite coming up short on Tuesday night, the Oilers are one of the most dangerous teams in the league when they’re on an offensive run.

After scoring six goals against the LA Kings in round one, they immediately came out in the next team and scored eight more. A similar occurrence happened against Calgary in the last round also where the Oilers scored six goals in Game 1 before scoring five more in Game 2 as well.

The Oilers continue to be one of the streakiest teams in the entire league in terms of getting offensively hot and have gone 11-3 over their last 14 starts when coming off a five goals or more effort in their previous game.

Good Fortune Continues To Go Colorado’s Way

The Avalanche ended the season with the league’s third highest discrepancy in overall expected goal differential this season, and the highest overall in positive terms, as they’ve continued to see an inordinate number of chances fall their way in games.

Colorado owns a +33 goal advantage on the season over chances created and that’s a sizeable margin considering the only two bigger discrepancies in the league this season were on the Seattle Kraken (-36) and the New Jersey Devils (-42) as they struggled immensely to put chances on the scoreboard this year.

That hasn’t been a concern for this Colorado team however and they will hope their fortune continues over this series as well.

Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction

Both the Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers are top two in scoring over these playoffs so far with the Avalanche owning the highest shots per game rating and the Oilers having the highest shots to goal percentage in the league as well.

We expect more goals in this game, along with assists, and while Leon Draisaitl owns a 0.69 assists per game rating this season, more importantly he’s bagged an average of 3.0 assists per game over his last five starts as he continues to run hot over these playoffs.

We’re taking the Leon Draisaitl Over 0.5 Assists prop at -175 on Thursday as we expect another entertaining Game 2 between the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche over in Denver tonight.

Prediction: Leon Draisaitl Over 0.5 Assists -175
