Colorado Avalanche vs St. Louis Blues Analysis
After a terrific Game 1 which saw Blues goalie Jordan Binnington put in one of the performances of the season, the Colorado Avalanche prevailed in OT through a well worked Josh Manson goal to take a 1-0 series lead.
That makes five straight victories for the Avalanche now in these playoffs after sweeping the Nashville Predators in the last round.
The Blues will no doubt hope to become the first team to hand Colorado their first loss of the playoffs so far but in order to do that they’re going to have to get a win in Denver, something they’ve only managed just once over their last eight visits here.
Blues Historically Poor Against the Avalanche
Tuesday’s defeat to the Avalanche signaled the eighth straight time the Blues have lost a playoff game to Colorado, a run that stretches all the way back to 2001.
To overcome that, the Blues are going to have to improve on a defense which ranked 25th in the league this season on overall defensive xGA.
Avalanche Dominate Game 1
Despite the overall close game and the fact it eventually went into OT, Tuesday’s Game 1 was absolutely dominated by the Colorado Avalanche in everything but the scoreboard.
The Avalanche outshot the Blues by almost 30 shots, hit the post three times and the crossbar twice in a commanding performance that was only outdone by the heroics of Jordan Binnington in the opposing nets.
Colorado Avalanche vs St. Louis Blues Game 2 Prediction
We’re taking the Colorado Avalanche in regulation on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues.
The Avalanche were dominant in Game 1 and we expect an even more comprehensive display tonight in Denver after the Avalanche dusted off eight days of rust in that opening game.
The Blues rank 32nd in the league this season (last) in opponent scoring chances allowed and that’s going to be anathema against a Colorado team that are averaging 4.8 goals per game (#1) over these playoffs so far.
Take the Colorado Avalanche to win inside regulation tonight and take a commanding 2-0 series lead in their conference second round matchup against the St. Louis Blues.
Prediction: Colorado Avalanche Win in Regulation
