Colorado Avalanche vs Washington Capitals Analysis
The Washington Capitals, who currently find themselves in a playoff battle right now, will look for their sixth win in seven games later tonight but face a really tough test against a Colorado Avalanche team who is absolutely streaking right now.
Nine straight wins now for the Avalanche has them firmly positioned as the best team in hockey and they’ll be looking to continue that form at home here against Washington.
This will be the second and final meeting of the two sides this regular season after the Capitals registered a 6-3 win at home against the Avalanche back in October.
Washington Look To Find A Rhythm
It’s been a fantastic final two months of the season so far for the Washington Capitals after a less-than-stellar opening to the 2021-22 season.
The Capitals went through a patch between November 30th to February 28th where they registered just 14 wins from 33 games overall.
Since then, however, the Capitals have looked good, winning 14 of their last 20 overall and look in prime position to claim a Wild Card spot ahead of this year’s postseason.
Colorado Ruthless At Home
With one of the league’s best home records this season, posting a red-hot 31-4-3 mark inside Ball Arena, the Colorado Avalanche are a difficult proposition for visiting road teams at the best of times, nevermind one who are going for their 10th-straight victory later tonight.
The Avalanche have also gone an outstanding 51-9 in their last 60 games when penciled in as a home favorite, so the Capitals will have to be at their absolute best here tonight in order to overturn them.
Colorado Avalanche vs Washington Capitals Prediction
We like goals in this one between the Capitals and the Avalanche later tonight. Both teams are top-eight in the league this season in terms of overall scoring and rank top-seven also in terms of shots-to-goal ratio.
Not only that, but Colorado is top-ten in expected goals as well and face a Washington side that have averaged a colossal 5.67 goals per game across their last six starts.
Ilya Samsonov, who is expected in nets tonight for the Capitals, adds another checkmark to the over here as he has been extremely poor this year, averaging a .865 SV% across his last five starts and sits 61st in the league this season in terms of overall GSAA average, posting a -10.67 rating on the year.
Take the over 6.5 goals tonight between the Washington Capitals and the Colorado Avalanche.
