Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Betting Analysis
The Dallas Stars will look to get back in the win column on Thursday night after alternating double wins and losses over their last six league games.
Ottawa meanwhile comes off a blowout loss against the LA Kings on Tuesday night, a game in which the Kings hung four goals on the Senators across just the opening twelve minutes of action, so Ottawa will no doubt want a much more focused effort against the Stars in this one.
These two teams have already faced off against one other once this season, with Ottawa coming out with a 4-2 victory at home over the Stars back on October 24th.
Shutout Loss A New Experience For Dallas
When you carry one of the league’s most potent offenses, it’s not too often you’ll find yourself shutout in games, but that’s exactly what happened to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night.
Dallas drew a scoring blank from 44 shots on goal against Toronto as they simply couldn’t penetrate Matt Murray’s outstanding effort in nets as he registered his first SO win of the season.
That said, we don’t expect a similar scoring blank for the Stars in this one as they’ve shown how dangerous they can be in front of goals this season, averaging the league’s 3rd best scoring offense this year with a 3.77 goals per game average.
Ottawa Has Firepower Of Their Own
Despite Tuesday’s lopsided loss against the LA Kings, the Ottawa Senators prior to that had won four of their previous five games, and a large part of that success came through the Senators’ offense.
Ottawa averaged 4.00 goals per game across those four victories and ranks top ten in the league this year on total shots per game and total power play goals scored also.
With the Senators winning all of their last four meetings against the Stars in recent series history also, we could well see this Ottawa offense open up once again on Thursday night down in Texas.
Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Prediction
This is a real toss-up type of affair here on Thursday night with an argument potentially being made for either team, but while both teams carry potent offenses into this one, it’s in their respective defenses that some separation starts to emerge as to how they’ve performed so far this year.
Dallas actually ranks ahead of Ottawa this season on overall scoring defense, but in terms of statistical xGA, Ottawa owns the far better numbers this season, with the Senators ranking as the 7th best team in the league this season on defensive xGA (Dallas ranks 18th).
The reason for that gulf between actual and expected data is Ottawa’s ranking as effectively the unluckiest team in the league right now with a -14 xDIFF, while Dallas ranks top six.
That will change however, and at the current price of +155 on the Senators in this one, we’re happy to back Ottawa on Thursday as the value play against Dallas.
