Edmonton Oilers vs Colorado Avalanche Analysis
The Edmonton Oilers find themselves on the brink of elimination on Monday night as they host a Colorado Avalanche team that have now won three straight against them, including in Game 3 in this same venue on Saturday night via a 4-2 victory.
The Oilers have been outshot and outscored in every matchup over this series so far and they’ll need to try and rally a defense that has given up a whopping 3.53 goals against per game over this postseason, by far the worst mark out of any team still left in the playoffs.
Colorado have won six of the last seven meetings against Edmonton and will look to bank win number seven tonight in Alberta.
The Colorado Juggernaut Rolls On
While Nazem Kadri’s absence will no doubt be a huge blow for this Avalanche team moving forward in the playoffs, he’s a player who averaged an impressive 0.83 assists per game this season for Colorado.
The Avalanche nevertheless look to have strength in depth and have been an absolute juggernaut on both sides of the puck over this postseason so far.
The Avalanche have averaged a colossal 4.54 goals per game on offense this season in the playoffs (#1), 40.62 shots per game on offense (#1) and have allowed just 2.69 goals per game on defense (#1), the best marks out of any team currently still in the playoffs this year.
History Massively Against An Oilers Resurgence In This Series
The Edmonton Oilers face a grim reality on Monday night as the teams who have gone down 0-3 in conference semifinals and finals are 0-44 to advance in postseason history.
And it’s not only history that is against the Oilers here as they also have to face life without left winger Evander Kane in Game 4 after he got suspended for fouling Colorado’s Nazem Kadri in Game 3.
That will be a huge blow for Edmonton tonight as Kane ranked 3rd this season on Oilers total goals per game with 0.51 gpg on average and he also leads the entire postseason in goals scored this year with 13 in total.
Edmonton Oilers vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction
While the Oilers look to make a last stand here tonight against the Avalanche, we’re just not sure it’ll be enough and we’re taking Colorado to close the show on the road tonight and advance in four.
The Oilers have been outshot by an average of 13.3 shots per game over this series so far and are relying purely on the postseason’s best shots to goal percentage this season at a massive 11.79% on average, almost a full one percent higher than Colorado’s average and 2.5% higher than Tampa Bay’s for comparison.
That’s simply unsustainable and if Edmonton can’t crack Colorado’s code with those types of numbers going their way than it’s highly unlikely they’ll be able to generate much more in Game 4 tonight.
The Avalanche are 61-19 in their last 80 games going in as a favorite and we like them to increase that impressive run tonight with a win and series sweep against the Oilers in Alberta.
Prediction: Colorado Avalanche Moneyline -135
