Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings Betting Analysis
This should be a very exciting Pacific Division series between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. This will be a rematch of last seasons first round matchup that the Oilers won in seven games to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
The Kings bounced back from a 3-1 deficit more than halfway through the 3rd period to ultimately win 4-3 after an Alex Lafallo power play goal 9:19 into overtime.
These teams split four regular season meetings, with the Kings winning 3-1 in Edmonton on November 16th and 6-3 at home on January 16th.
The Oilers answered back with a 2-0 shutout victory at home on March 30th and then 3-1 in Los Angeles on April 4th. The puck will drop at 10:00 PM EST/7:00 PST from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Kings Steal Home Ice Edge
The Los Angeles Kings finished the regular season third place in the Pacific Division with a 47-25-10 record. They ended the regular season in a bit of a slump with losses in 5 of their last 9 games.
The Kings ranked 10th in the NHL in scoring with 3.34 goals per game on 32.4 shots per game. Anze Kopitar (74 points), Kevin Fiala (49 assists) and Adrian Kempe (41 goals) led the Kings in scoring this season.
The Los Angeles power play has been outstanding as they rank 4th best, scoring in 25.3% of their opportunities. Defense has been inconsistent as they rank 16th with an average of 3.31 goals per game on 27.9 shots per game.
They have also struggled in the penalty kill, ranking 9th worst while killing 75.8% of their penalties. The newly acquired Joonas Korpisalo (traded from the Blue Jackets at the deadline) will start in net, he has a 18-14-4 record with a 2.87 GAA and .915 save percentage.
Oilers Need To Knot This Series Up
The Edmonton Oilers finished the regular season in 2nd place in the Pacific Division with a 50-23-9 record. They finished just two points back from the Vegas Golden Knights for 1st place in the Western Conference.
Edmonton had the best 2nd half record and finished the season on a 9 game win streak and 15 game point streak.
The Oilers led the league in scoring once again with 3.96 goals per game on an average of 33.6 shots per game. They are led by two of the best offensive players in the league, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. McDavid led the league in scoring with 153 points, 64 goals and 89 assists.
With Draisaitl, Edmonton was the only team in the league with two 50+ goal scorers. They had the best power play in the NHL by a wide margin, scoring on 32.4% of their opportunities.
Like Los Angeles, Edmonton has been inconsistent on defensively, ranking 16th with 3.12 goals allowed on 31.4 shots pr game.
They have the 13th worst penalty kill at only 77%. Stuart Skinner will be their starting goaltender, he has a 29-14-4 record with a 2.87 GAA and .915 save percentage.
Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings Expert Prediction
The Edmonton Oilers are favored by -215 on the money line and +120 on the puck line, while the Los Angeles Kings sit at +185 on the money line, -140 on the +1.5 puck line with a total set at 6.5.
The Kings stole Game 1 and I fully expect the Oilers to bounce back in Game 2. Connor McDavid is going to be fired up after a pointless Game 1.
The Oilers had the #1 power play in the NHL and the Kings penalty kill ranks only 24th. Edmonton has a tremendous offensive advantage as they scored the most goals on the 5th most high danger shots in the league.
The Oilers were the hottest team in the NHL entering the playoffs and fully expect a bounce back in a must win situation. Let’s back Edmonton on the plus money puck line.
