Lightning vs Maple Leafs Analysis
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning enter Monday night’s game coming off four wins from their last five games respectively with both teams vying for second spot in the Atlantic Division behind runaway leaders Florida.
However, it’s fair to say Toronto has been the much hotter team of late winning four straight games by margin heading into Monday’s contest and knocking off some very good teams along the way such as the Calgary Flames and the Boston Bruins.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, haven’t looked anywhere near as impressive over their last stretch run, splitting a pair of games against an excellent Carolina team, but dropping games against the Rangers, Bruins and Canadiens respectively over the last two weeks also.
Campbell’s Return Gives Leafs Much-Needed Boost
After sitting out the last ten games with a rib injury, Leafs goalie Jack Campbell returned on Saturday with 29 saves in a win against the Philadelphia Flyers.
That return has been a welcome boost for a Toronto team looking to make a final push for a top playoff spot this year and Campbell has been instrumental to that, registering as a top-20 goalie in the league this season on overall GSAA average as he looks to make his second consecutive start tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Lightning Face Difficult Week Ahead
The Tampa Bay Lightning are likely wishing they were in far better form ahead of tonight’s game as they face a trio of really tough games between now and Friday as the race for playoff contention heats up.
Tampa Bay hosts the Maple Leafs later tonight before travelling on the road to face a very good Washington Capitals team. A return home then on Friday to take on an excellent Boston Bruins team in a huge game at the Amalie Arena caps off a very tough five days for the Lightning, so it’s imperative they bounce back with a win tonight.
Lightning vs Maple Leafs Prediction
Momentum is a huge factor in the NHL and the Toronto Maple Leafs look on an absolute roll right now.
With the return of Jack Campbell in net and Auston Matthews nabbing the top spot away from Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl in the goal stakes, Toronto look in imperious form right now and getting them at an underdog price later tonight against a struggling Tampa Bay side looks too good of an opportunity to pass up.
Toronto’s offense is second in overall scoring this season at 3.76 goals per game, second in total power play goals scored also at 54, and second in offensive expected goals as well, with only the Florida Panthers creating more overall chances than Toronto have this season.
We’re taking the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight as +110 road underdogs as the play for Monday in Tampa.
