Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers Analysis
Despite Saturday’s loss against the Colorado Avalanche to snap their six-game winning streak, Edmonton was still impressive in that game putting up a mammoth 50 shots on goal but simply couldn’t find the winner as they eventually lost in a shootout against the Avalanche.
Minnesota, meanwhile, came off a huge comeback win against the LA Kings on Sunday, going down 3-0 early in the first period only to rally back with six goals over the final two and a half periods to close out the game in style.
The Oilers and Wild have seen each other twice this season with Minnesota taking both games in pretty convincing fashion over in Edmonton.
Oilers Look To Maintain Home Ice Advantage
Sitting fifth in the Western Conference, a close four points behind Minnesota, Edmonton will look to hold serve for home ice advantage heading into the post-season as they sit four points and six points ahead of LA and Vegas respectively in the Pacific Division.
With Vegas on deck for this Saturday night in Edmonton, that sets up a huge clash for the Oilers as they look to continue momentum with another win here tonight against the Wild.
Wild Continuing To Look Strong At Home
With an impressive 25-7-2 record at home this season, not many teams have found success at the Xcel Energy Center this year.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were the last team to win here back at the end of last month in a furious 4-3 back and forth OT encounter in which the Wild had to rally back just to force overtime in that one.
However, success for Minnesota at home has largely been balanced this season as they’ve kept their last nine opponents at home to just 1.88 gapg on average and on the other side have scored at least three goals in every single one of those nine home games as well.
Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction
We’re looking towards taking goals in this one as we envision this being a shootout on Tuesday between two very good offensive teams.
Both sides rank top-7 in the league this season in terms of overall scoring, with Minnesota averaging 3.63 goals per game on the year while Edmonton has averaged 3.44 goals per game also.
On top of that, Minnesota is averaging the league’s second-highest shots-to-goal percentage this season at 11.11%, tied with the Florida Panthers.
Edmonton, meanwhile, is converting the league’s third-most high-danger scoring opportunities this season at 13.6% and have averaged a highly impressive 4.43 goals per game across their last fourteen starts also.
With the over going 26-8-1 in Minnesota’s last 35 games entering as a home favorite, we expect another shootout here tonight between the Oilers and Wild and we’re taking the over 6.5 goals on Tuesday.
