Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets Analysis

The Winnipeg Jets travel to the Bell Centre in Montreal on Monday night still pushing for a potential wild card spot to close out the season.

However, a recent four-game losing run nearly derailed that attempt altogether before the Jets managed to hang on to see out a close 4-3 win on the road against Ottawa on Sunday night.

Montreal, meanwhile, has little to play for but pride here but the Canadiens have been decent of late, stacking up wins against the Devils, Lightning and Leafs over the last two weeks.

The Jets and Canadiens have faced each other just once this season with Winnipeg blowing out Montreal 8-4 in a home rout back on March 1st.

Jets Look To Keep Faint Playoff Hopes Alive

The Jets will look to put it all on the line here on Monday night as they try and maintain a push for a final Wild card spot in the Western Conference.

However, with just one win from their last five overall, a win in which they were out-shot 34 to 25 in and were on the defensive throughout, Winnipeg could hardly be coming into this one in a worse run of form in order to try and make that push.

Montreal Improving At Home

While the Canadiens own the Eastern Conference’s worst home record this season at just 10-20-4, their more recent home games at the Bell Centre have shown some green shoots of optimism.

Despite just two wins from their last six home games overall, those four losses came via a late third period collapse against Ottawa, a close 4-3 loss to Florida, an OT loss against Boston and another OT loss against Dallas also as Montreal played effectively in each one.

Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets Prediction

There is huge pressure on the Jets tonight to deliver another win in their pursuit of the postseason and we can’t help taking a bit of the value on the other side tonight with the home dog playing with the shackles off.

Montreal has actually been playing pretty well of late, despite their outright record, getting their offense into gear where they’ve averaged 4.25 goals per game over their four most recent starts.

Winnipeg meanwhile, despite their obvious need to win this game, just haven’t impressed of late, conceding 4.2 goals per game on average over their last five starts and Eric Comrie, who’s expected in nets tonight for the Jets, holds a pretty mediocre .896 SV% over February and March this year as well.

Take the plus money with the Montreal Canadiens at home tonight to snatch a victory inside the Bell Centre on Monday.
