New Jersey Devils vs Boston Bruins Betting Analysis

Two of the league’s hottest teams to start the year meet at the Prudential Center in Newark on Friday as the league’s #1 team the Boston Bruins come to town to take on the New Jersey Devils.

While Boston have gotten off to a red-hot start to the season and have pretty much continued in that vein throughout the year, New Jersey was actually the more profitable team for backers throughout much of the year before an early December skid saw them lose six straight games and fall to 4th in the conference.

The Boston freight train meanwhile has continued to roll on, dispatching a solid Florida Panthers team on Monday night by multiple goals before coming from behind to beat Winnipeg on Thursday night also.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season after Boston won all three meetings against New Jersey last season.

Success On Both Ends For Bruins

With the league’s #1 defense and #2 offense this season, it’s no surprise that Boston have done as well as they have, especially with a goalie in Linus Ullmark who also ranks #1 in the league this year.

However, one note of concern for Boston is in their data this year which ranks them 16th in the league on offensive xG this season and has them overly reliant on a double-digit conversion percentage and an almost 30% power play percentage as well, both among the top in the league.

Devils Look To Get Back On Track

After that six-game skid earlier this month for the Devils, they responded with a positive 4-2 win in Florida on Wednesday night against the Panthers, coming from behind twice in that game before a huge third period put them in total command.

The good news for New Jersey is that that six-game losing streak may have just been a blip as the Devil’s underlying data this season has been extremely impressive, ranking 5th on offensive xG and 2nd on defensive xGA this year.

New Jersey Devils vs Boston Bruins Prediction

While New Jersey’s statistical data has continued to be a major highlight for them this season, not just in terms of xG, but also ranking top ten in the league in both high-danger scoring chances created and allowed this year as well, we nevertheless have to side with Boston in this one going in as slight road favorites.

The Bruins are just continuing to find ways to get it done in games and they’ve won 32 of the last 44 meetings against the Devils also. Take the Boston Bruins -115 to win outright on the road on Friday against the New Jersey Devils over in Newark.
