New York Islanders vs Boston Bruins Betting Analysis
Two of the best goalies in the league are slated to face each other on Wednesday night at the UBS Center in Elmont as the Boston Bruins come to town to take on the New York Islanders.
The Bruins quickly avenged their 3-0 shutout loss against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday with back-to-back victories over recent games, and have now won six of their last seven games outright with three of their last four losses coming via OT/SO also as they continue to play lights out night on night.
The Islanders meanwhile haven’t fared nearly as well, dropping five of their last six games overall and scoring an average of just 1.6 goals per game across their last five starts as well.
This will be the second meeting of the team’s three-game series this year with Boston taking game one via a 4-3 shootout last month.
However, the Islanders own the advantage in this venue of late winning all of their last four meetings against the Bruins in New York.
Boston Setting a Marker
The Boston Bruins have been playing some absolutely phenomenal hockey over recent months and the gulf in the Eastern Conference continues to widen.
The Bruins sit a full 10 points clear of 2nd placed Carolina in the East after destroying the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0 in their last game on Monday.
On top of that, Boston ranks both #1 in scoring offense and scoring defense this season and could potentially become the first team to accomplish that feat in twelve seasons if they can continue that impressive surge until the start of the playoffs.
Data Starting To Creep Up On Islanders
While the Islanders have continued to rank as one of the best defensive teams in the league this year with a 2.69 GAPG average (8th) and an 8.61% opponent shot conversion percentage also (5th), their underlying data hasn’t been nearly as impressive, and it’s started to catch up to the Islanders over recent games.
New York threw away a three-goal lead against the Washington Capitals on Monday and that defensive frailty is to be expected, especially considering the Islanders rank 25th on defensive xGA this season and 29th on high-danger scoring opportunities allowed also.
New York Islanders vs Boston Bruins Prediction
We’ve been highlighting the Islanders mirage-like defensive numbers for a while now, and only for Ilya Sorokin’s performances in nets this year, New York’s goal-against tally could be far worse.
Because of that, and the fact Boston continues to play lights out night after night also, we’re taking the Bruins to snap their recent cold streak in Elmont with a win tonight in regulation against the Islanders.
