New York Islanders vs Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Analysis
It’s been back-to-back wins now for the Toronto Maple Leafs across recent games as they go on the road to face the New York Islanders on Tuesday night down in Elmont, NY.
The Leafs had to overcome an early deficit in Saturday’s matchup against the Ottawa Senators before coming back to eventually take the lead, only to then give it up again allowing two goals late to see the game go into OT before the Leafs eventually got the win in a shootout.
The New York Islanders meanwhile are also coming off back-to-back wins across recent games themselves as Ilya Sorokin’s performances in nets continues to impress.
This will be the third and final meeting between the two teams this season after both teams split a pair of games earlier in the year.
However, this will be the first meeting in New York this season where goals have been prevalent of late, with the Over going 12-5 in the last 17 meetings between the two teams in the UBS Arena.
Leafs Defense Allowing Huge Pressure At The Back
While Toronto sits in a great spot in the playoff race this year overall, looking very likely headed towards yet another first-round playoff meeting against the Tampa Bay Lightning, their defense has been allowing an inordinately high number of shots at the back across their last few starts.
Despite two wins from their last three games overall, the Leafs have been outshot 115-71 in those matchups, and have arguably been over-reliant on their high-danger conversion percentages this season, both for and against.
Islanders Starting To Convert Chances
The New York Islanders have finally started to see an uptick in their own shot conversion percentages this season after some fairly low-key season-long numbers in that regard.
The Islanders have averaged around a 15% shot conversion percentage across their last two starts, well up from a sub-10% season-long average as the Islanders also rank 22nd in high-danger conversion percentage this season also.

We’ve already highlighted previously Toronto’s low shot count in games of late and their perhaps over-reliance on high conversion percentages this season as well.
So if Toronto aren’t at their very best in this one, a team total of 3.5 looks like a very high line to get over when facing a team as solid at the back as the New York Islanders have been this year.
The Islanders rank 2nd in the league behind only the Boston Bruins this season in terms of opponent shot conversion percentage at just 8.57% on average, mainly due to the fact of having one of the league’s best goalies in Ilya Sorokin.
The Islanders have allowed an average of 2.2 goals per game against opponents in Sorokin’s last five home starts, and we don’t see Toronto eclipsing that by much on Tuesday either.
