New York Rangers vs Florida Panthers Prediction

  • New York Rangers EV vs Florida Panthers -120
  • Total: 5.5 Goals
  • The underdog is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings between the two teams.

The near-perfect start for the Florida Panthers (10-0-1, first in – Atlantic) this 2021-22 season will be on display Monday night in New York City at the world-famous Madison Square Garden in a regular-season scheduled contest against the New York Rangers (6-3-3, second in – Metropolitan). New York is riding a three-game losing streak while the Panthers can do no wrong.

The Panthers matched the best 11-game start in NHL history with the two-goal performance of Anthony Duclair on Saturday night. The Saturday night matchup in Suprise, Fla, was the first game in NHL history that featured a regular-season event with two teams riding season-opening point streaks of at least nine games.

The Panthers enter the Garden on Monday night, ranking 2nd in the NHL with nearly 34 shots per game and average goals per game of 4.2. Monday night in New York drops the puck on a four-game Panthers road trip. Florida has earned points in two straight games with wins against the Capitals and Hurricanes. In addition, Florida stretched their season mark to 10-0-1. The Cats’ only loss this 2021-22 campaign was to the Boston Bruins in overtime on Halloween Eve.

Adam Fox is driving the Rangers’ team bus and leads the New York franchise with ten assists and 12 points this season. The Rangers followed season-opening failures at Washington (5-1 loss) and in the Garden against Dallas (3-2 OT loss) by winning six out of seven games. The sixth win in those seven contests was the first contest of their recent four-game road trip that saw the Rangers earn a 3-1 victory over the expansion Seattle Kracken. Unfortunately, the Rangers followed up the win over Seattle with losses in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.

In that three-game losing streak, New York has surrendered 15 goals while scoring just seven. The Rangers are back in the Garden for one game, against the can’t lose Panthers, before heading out to play the role of visitor in Columbus before heading back to MSG.

The Rangers are struggling to create quality shots on goal. The team’s offensive metrics offer evidence of those scuffles when attacking the net. New York is in the bottom 25 percent of the league in Total Goals For (in 5-on-5), Expected Goals For (per 60 minutes) as well, in High-Danger Chances For (per 60 minutes). New York veteran left-winger Chris Kreider has assisted in keeping the Rangers’ offensive numbers from being atrocious with six goals over the last ten games.

New York Rangers vs Florida Panthers Injury Report

Rangers: Filip Chytil (undisclosed)

Panthers: Aleksander Barkov (lower body), Sam Bennett (upper body), and Sergei Bobrovsky (upper body) are all listed as day-to-day.

The only measurable edge for the Rangers is the home-sweet home of Madison Square Garden. Accessing the pair of Eastern Conference teams by metrics alone isn’t fair. Even if the Panthers are without Bobrovsky and Barkov, backing Florida versus the poor form of the Rangers is the financially responsible conclusion.

The Florida coaching staff has listed Sergei Bobrovsky as the expected goalie vs. the Rangers tonight. Regardless of who starts in net tonight, the play is on the visiting Panthers as the short money-line road favorite.

Hockey Betting 101

What is the Puckline?

The puckline is hockey’s version of the point spread. When betting on the puckline, the favorite is -1.5 goals on the spread, with the underdog at +1.5 goals. Betting on the favorite requires your team to win its game by two or more goals. Conversely, betting on the underdog at +1.5 means that your team can either win the game or lose by one goal, and your ticket will still cash.

Puckline Betting Basics

Since the majority of hockey betting is built around the moneyline, casual bettors might be turned off by laying larger prices with the top teams in the league. Instead of laying -200 or -250 on a strong favorite, a more attractive option might be laying -1.5 goals at a more reasonable price point. Conversely, it can be hard to pull the trigger on a +200 underdog that’s expected to lose their game over 60% of the time. Well, it gets a little easier to put your money on them if you’re getting a +1.5 goal head start.
