New York Rangers vs Vancouver Canucks Betting Analysis

The Vancouver Canucks came out of the break on Monday with a tough 5-4 OT loss against the New Jersey Devils and will look to reverse that later tonight as they head to MSG to take on the New York Rangers.

Vancouver not only took the lead in that game against New Jersey on Monday, but they also stormed back from a 4-1 deficit as well, showing a ton of character in the process, something that’s arguably been lacking in a lot of their performances this season.

The Rangers meanwhile came out of the break in the complete opposite fashion, putting together a 5-4 OT win against Calgary in a real back-and-forth contest over in New York on Monday.

This will be the teams’ first meeting of the season after Vancouver took both games last year, and the Canucks have won all of their last five meetings against the Rangers in this series also.

Vancouver Looking To Rebuild

After trading their top scorer Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders last week and going just 4-11-1 across their last 16 games overall, there’s no question Vancouver are looking towards a massive rebuild over the next few seasons.

That said, this team still has a ton of talent in its roster, and the change to Rick Tocchet as head coach seems to have galvanized this team as they’ve played much better over their last four outings since he took charge.

Rangers Switch Things Up

The New York Rangers have looked far sharper in attack since retooling their lineup against the Florida Panthers a couple of weeks ago, with the young trio of Filip Chytil, Alexis Lafreniere, and Kaapo Kakko generating three wins from their last four contests overall.

Despite averaging just 1.75 goals per game across their four games prior to that lineup switch, the New York Rangers are now averaging a red-hot 4.25 goals per game post-switch, and look extremely dangerous offensively with that young core.

New York Rangers vs Vancouver Canucks Prediction

There’s no question Vancouver have been playing much better of late since the change at head coach, and they really put it up to the New Jersey Devils last time out, a team that is arguably much better defensively than the Rangers have been this year despite their surface-level goals against numbers this season.

The Devils rank 3rd in the league this year in defensive xGA while the Rangers rank all the way down in 15th in that same category.

On top of that, the Canucks rank 2nd this year on high-danger conversion percentage, connecting on 12.2% of all their shots inside the slot area, with only the Seattle Kraken bettering that number overall, so the Canucks should remain dangerous in this one.

Overall, given Vancouver’s strong recent historic trend against the Rangers, plus their offensive data this season, we believe we see the Canucks get to at least 3 goals here on Wednesday.

Take the Vancouver Canucks Team Total Over 2.5 goals on Wednesday in their matchup against the New York Rangers.

Prediction: Vancouver Canucks Team Total Over 2.5 (-120)
