Oilers vs Capitals Analysis
After averaging just 1.67 goals per game across their previous three starts before their recent win streak, this Washington offense has finally came to life scoring an average of 4.67 goals per game across their last three starts.
That matches up well with Washington’s season averages this year as the Capitals rank top-ten in the league on total goals per game this year and top ten on total number of scoring chances created as well.
Edmonton Look For a Turn in Form
After winning seven of their previous ten games since mid-February, the Oilers have hit something of a slick patch over the last week, dropping three straight games for the first time in over six weeks.
A lot of that issue has come on the defensive end for the Oilers as they’ve given up an average of 4 goals per game across their last three starts.
That isn’t that much of a surprise however as this Oilers team have allowed the 10th-most goals per game this season at 3.21 gpg on average.
Oilers vs Capitals Prediction
Ilya Samsanov and Mike Smith are both expected in nets tonight for either team and that spells goals for us in this one.
Both Samsanov and Smith rank 54th and 59th respectively this year on overall GSAA average with both men posting a disappointing sub .400 quality start percentage this season also.
With both teams ranking top-12 in the league on offensive goals per game this year, Washington 9th on total scoring chances created and Edmonton 5th on high danger conversion rate this season also, it’s very difficult to imagine this one staying under the total here on Wednesday night.
Take the over 6.5 goals on Wednesday between the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers up in Alberta.
