Ottawa Senators vs Dallas Stars Betting Analysis

The Ottawa Senators have now won three games on the bounce after dropping their opening two starts against the Sabres and Maple Leafs to start the season. Ottawa is now tasked with facing a Dallas team here on Monday night in equally solid form, winning four of their first five games to open up the new season.

The Senators’ offense has really kicked into gear since returning home last week, putting up an average of 6.0 goals per game against the Bruins, Capitals and Coyotes, and will no doubt look to match that output against the Stars tonight also.

However, that may be easier said than done as they face a team in Dallas on Monday who own the league’s best overall defensive numbers this season, giving up just 1.5 goals against per game on average.

Oettinger Continues To Excel

Despite an offense that ranked 21st in the league last season and last in the playoffs, the Dallas Stars were nevertheless able to push an in-form Calgary Flames team all the way to seven games in last season’s conference first-round matchup in the playoffs, mainly due to the efforts of one man: Jake Oettinger.

Oettinger put in some absolutely sensational performances in net over the course of that series to keep the Stars alive as long as possible and that good form has carried into this season.

The Minnesota native already owns the league’s best overall GSAA average this season along with a perfect quality start percentage also. He should provide a stern test in net for a red-hot Senator offense here on Monday night.

Ottawa’s Data Continues To Impress This Season

The Ottawa Senators have certainly been putting up some fantastic numbers to start the season, at least data-wise, as they rank top four in the league this season in both offensive xG and defensive xGA. That is an ultra-impressive feat matched by no other team in the league this year.

With a negative expected goal differential on the season so far, that statistical dominance hasn’t quite panned out in real terms for Ottawa just yet, but if the Senators can continue to put up these kinds of numbers moving forward, they’ll certainly be a team to watch out for over the course of the season.

Ottawa Senators vs Dallas Stars Prediction

Despite Dallas’ stellar defense this season, it’s hard to look past the kinds of numbers the Ottawa Senators are putting up this year. We believe they’re slightly undervalued for this matchup on Monday night.

While Dallas owns the best overall defense in the league this season, along with having the league’s No. 1 goalie in Jake Oettinger as well, Ottawa has the better overall statistical data this year, strength of schedule notwithstanding, and have held both of their recent opponents to an average of just 23 shots and 2.0 goals per game.

We’re siding with the Ottawa Senators on Monday to continue their winning run with another outright win at home against the Dallas Stars.
