Ottawa Senators vs Florida Panthers Analysis
It’s been a fantastic season for the Florida Panthers so far as they clinched the Atlantic Division, became the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference and rank as the best team overall in hockey right now with 120 points banked as they now look to shift focus into getting everyone healthy ahead of next week’s postseason.
The eliminated Ottawa Senators have no such playoff concerns over the next few weeks but are going through their best winning streak of the season so far, winning four-straight games heading into Thursday’s matchup and would love nothing more than to make it win number five against a team in Florida who the books have penciled in as one of the favorites for the Stanley Cup Trophy this year.
The two sides have faced each other three times this season with the Ottawa Senators securing a shocking 8-2 win on the road back in December over in Florida before the Panthers rallied back to take the last two head-to-head matchups last month.
Panthers Managing Starters
The Panthers are a team looking to stage manage their way into next week’s playoffs and coach Andrew Brunette has keyed in on the fact that Florida has to be smart over it’s last couple of remaining regular season games.
It’s been two straight defeats now for the Panthers after a 13-game winning streak to kick off April and they showed against Boston on Tuesday night that getting physical on the ice, at least until the playoffs start, simply won’t be a priority for this Panthers team moving forward in the regular season.
Senators Aim To Finish Strong
Currently riding their best win streak of the season right now, Ottawa looks like a team eager to close out the season on a high note and they’ll no doubt relish the chance to even the series at home tonight against the Florida Panthers.
The Senators have been getting hot offensively over recent games as well, netting 11 goals over their last two starts, and will look to keep that offensive gas pedal pressed hard against the Panthers later tonight also.
Ottawa Senators vs Florida Panthers Prediction
We’re going with the huge underdog in this one the Ottawa Senators to pull off the upset tonight against the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers look like a team checked out of the regular season right now and it’s clear their priority is simply to stay healthy ahead of next week’s playoffs, even with the President’s Trophy still in play.
Brunette opted to protect some of his starters last time out against Boston and will likely look to do the same here tonight also.
This game means a lot more to the Ottawa Senators tonight in what will be their final home game of the season and who have nothing else but a long summer to look forward to after their next two games wrap up, so expect them to come out firing here and close out their season strong in front of their home support.
Take the Ottawa Senators on the moneyline for Thursday at huge plus money odds against the Florida Panthers.
