Penguins vs Golden Knights Analysis

The Las Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins will look for a quick turnaround here on Friday as both teams come into this one off back-to-back losses over recent games.

The Knights come off two poor one goal efforts against the Flyers and Sabres respectively over recent starts while the Penguins got edged out by the slimmest of margins against two very good teams in the Hurricanes and Panthers also.

The Golden Knights and Penguins have faced each other once this season with the Penguins coming out 5-3 winners over in Vegas back on January 17th.

Vegas’ Offensive Slump

The team owning the 8th-highest number of shots per game in the league this season has found themselves in something of an offensive slump of late.

The Golden Knights have averaged just 2.00 goals per game since early February which is a major concern, especially considering the league’s most offensively challenged team this season, the Montreal Canadiens, have averaged 3.34 goals per game over that same timeframe.

Vegas’ shots-to-goal percentage is also a major concern hitting just over 9% this season.

Strong Against the West

While the Penguins have struggled at home of late, winning just two of their previous nine contests inside the PPG Paints Arena, their form against Western Conference opposition has been the opposite, cashing ten of the last 14 times they’ve faced off against teams from the West.

That’s little surprise either as Pittsburgh’s defense has been absolutely on point this season, allowing the fewest power play goals to opponents, the fourth-lowest shot-to-goal percentage at just 8.59% and the league’s fourth-lowest goals allowed per game also at just 2.60 gapg on average.

Penguins vs Golden Knights Prediction

It’s hard to look past anything other than a Pittsburgh Penguins win here on Friday.

Tristan Jarry is expected in nets tonight for the Penguins and he’s had an excellent season for Pittsburgh this year, posting the fifth-most quality starts out of any goalie on the season so far with a .920 SV% to boot.

Facing him will be an untested Logan Thompson who is expected in net tonight for the Golden Knights, and while the young Canadian did look decent against San Jose at home last time out, that wasn’t the case in his only road start this season against Nashville where he gave up three goals with a .885 SV%.

That could prove costly tonight against a Pittsburgh Penguins team averaging the fourth-most expected goals per game this year along with the fifth-highest total scoring chance percentage per game as well.

Take the Pittsburgh Penguins to win outright at home against the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Friday.
