Pittsburgh Penguins vs Colorado Avalanche Betting Analysis
Colorado and Pittsburgh’s first games out of the break respectively and the Avalanche will certainly be hoping they can maintain the same form they went into the break with, winning seven of their previous eight games prior to All-Star Weekend.
Pittsburgh meanwhile will be hoping for the exact reverse as they won just five of seventeen games heading into the All-Star Break and they’ll no doubt look to move up the standings in the Metropolitan Division with a much better second half of the season.
This will be the team’s first meeting this season after Colorado took both games last year in two very entertaining back-and-forth games.
Avalanche Looking For Greater Consistency
While the Colorado Avalanche may have gone into the break red-hot, their form prior to that was extremely patchy, winning just one of eight games overall between late December to mid-January as they’ve struggled to maintain consistency in the playoff race this season.
A 22nd-ranked offensive xG mark on the season may have had a lot to do with those consistency issues for the Avalanche this year, but with Colorado scoring an average of 4.13 goals per game across their last eight starts, they’ll be hoping they’ve finally been able to overcome those offensive issues.
Penguins Allowing Opponents Too Many Scoring Opportunities
The Pittsburgh Penguins have allowed an average of 5 goals per game across their last three starts, and that high number has been in the post for this team for quite a while, especially considering how the Penguins rank with the league’s 7th highest opponent shots allowed per game this season.
One of the league’s better opponent conversion percentages has somewhat kept their GAPG record in check this year, especially with the excellent goalkeeping from Tristan Jarry, but there’s no question Pittsburgh are simply allowing too many scoring opportunities to opponents this season.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction
We’re going to side with the Under in this one on Tuesday in Pittsburgh between the Avalanche and Penguins.
Both Colorado and Pittsburgh rank outside the top 14 in the league this year in terms of offensive xG, while Colorado boasts one of the league’s best defenses this season also, giving up just 2.73 GAPG on average with an 8.57% opponent conversion percentage as well.
That holds true for Pittsburgh also who are allowing just 9.15% of all their opponent shots against this season to be converted, and with the Under going 15-4-2 in the Avalanche’s last 21 road games also, we could well see another low-scoring affair play out here on Thursday between these two teams.
Take the Under 6.5 goals on Tuesday in the matchup between the Colorado Avalanche and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Prediction: Under 6.5 Goals Scored (-110)
