Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers Analysis
The New York Rangers rallied to stave off elimination on Wednesday night and will look to do the same again here tonight on the road going into Pittsburgh.
After going behind early in Game 5, the Rangers roared back with three goals midway through the second period to take the lead with Filip Chytil and Ryan Lindgren adding the finishing touches to the scoreline in the third.
The Rangers won three of the four meetings between the two teams during the regular season, including splitting both games inside PPG Paints Arena.
Rangers Ice Cold In Pittsburgh
Despite splitting a pair of road decisions earlier in the year during the regular season over in Pittsburgh, the Rangers overall record in Pittsburgh is incredibly poor over the last few seasons, winning just once over their last eight trips to PA.
Even more daunting is the fact the Penguins have won at a highly impressive 67% clip at home over their last 300 games in Pittsburgh, so the Rangers will have to be at their very best tonight in order to push this to a Game 7 on Sunday.
Pittsburgh’s Over-Reliance On Crosby Could Be A Concern
With the Penguins seemingly on their way to the second round with an early 2-0 lead against the Rangers in Game 5, Sidney Crosby’s altercation with Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouda saw the Penguins top player go off with a concussion, which then gave the Rangers the lift they needed to come back in that game and take command from that point on.
With Crosby still questionable ahead of Friday’s game, the loss of Pittsburgh’s overall points leader tonight could be a huge momentum swinger for the Rangers ahead of this one.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers Game 6 Prediction
After a shaky first period on Wednesday night against the Penguins, #1 regular season goalie Igor Shesterkin looked more like his old self, eventually finishing the game with a respectable .906 SV% and allowed just 1 of 22 over the final two periods of the game.
If he can keep that going into tonight and with the Rangers potentially capitalizing off Crosby’s apparent injury also, we like the Rangers to continue that momentum we saw midway through Game 5 with another victory here tonight and push this series to a pivotal Game 7 in New York.
Take the New York Rangers tonight on the moneyline to get the road win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
