Seattle Kraken vs Dallas Stars Betting Analysis
This has been an exciting second round series in the Western Conference between the Dallas Stars and Seattle Kraken.
In Game 1, Seattle stole home ice advantage with a 5-4 overtime victory in a back-and-forth contest despite an impressive four goal performance by the Stars Joe Pavelski. Dallas bounced back in Game 2 with a 4-2 victory while outshooting the Kraken 37-27.
The series then shifted to Seattle for Game 3, after a scoreless first period, the Kraken scored five times in the second period en route to a dominant 7-2 victory.
They won that game with seven different goal scorers despite being outshot 26-25. The puck drops at 9:30 PM EST/6:30 PST from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Kraken Look For Commanding Series Edge
After coming off a brutal inaugural campaign, the Seattle Kraken made a drastic improvement and earned the first Wild Card spot with a 46-28-8 regular season record.
The Kraken scored the 5th most goals in the NHL with an average of 3.52 goals per game on 30.5 shots per game. Seattle scored on 19.8% of their power play chances, 12th most in the league while being led by Jared McCann with 70 points.
Vince Dunn was right behind him with 64 points, 50 of those being assists. They have been inconsistent defensively as they allowed an average of 3.07 goals per game (14th fewest) on 27 shots per game.
Goaltender Phillip Grubauer had a 17-14-4 record with a 2.85 GAA and .895 save percentage. Backing him up is Martin Jones, who finished with a 27-13-3 record, 2.99 GAA and .887 save percentage.
The Kraken knocked off the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs and they did it with defense. Their penalty kill ranked #2 in the first round, killing off 88.9% of their penalties.
Stars Hope To Shine In Bounce Back Game
The Dallas Stars were competitive wire-to-wire during the regular season and ended up finishing with a 47-21-14 record good for the second seed in the Central.
They finished the season on fire with six straight wins, picking up at least a point in 11 of their last 13 games. The Stars ranked 7th with 3.41 goals per game on an average of 31.9 shots per game.
Dallas was lights out with their power play, scoring on 25% of their opportunities and ranking 5th in the NHL. Jason Robertson led the team in scoring with 109 points, 46 goals and 63 assists.
The Stars defense was spot on allowing the 3rd fewest goals with an average of only 2.62 goals per game on an average of 29.9 shots per game. They also had the 3rd best penalty kill in the league at 83.5%.
Starting goaltender Jake Oettinger finished the season with a 37-11-11 record, 2.37 GAA and .908 save percentage. After falling behind 2-1 against the Minnesota Wild, the Stars dominated defensively to win three straight and advance.
They ranked #1 on defense, allowing only 2.33 goals per game on an average of only 30.7 shots per game. They also had the 6th best penalty kill at 81.8%.
Seattle Kraken vs Dallas Stars Expert Prediction
The Dallas Stars are favored with a money line set at -140 with a total set at 5.5. I could see this total moving up over the course of day as all three games in this series have cleared this total.
We are also coming off a Game 3 where we saw 9 combined goals scored. Phillip Grubauer has been solid between the pipes but Dallas has plenty of players who can score and Grubauer has still allowed 10 goals in three games.
Jake Oettinger hasn’t played very well and Seattle had 7 different players score goals on Sunday. There is no reason to think this turns into a defensive battle and I could see the over cashing in the second period.
