Seattle Kraken vs Las Vegas Golden Knights Analysis
The Seattle Kraken host the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night coming off one of their hottest streaks of the season so far.
The Kraken destroyed an excellent LA Kings team in a 6-1 dismantling on Monday night and have now won four of their last six games overall.
The Vegas Golden Knights, meanwhile, have also won four of their last six games but have looked a lot more shaky in spots, needing a mammoth four-goal third period effort just to force OT against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, their first time winning a game from three goals down in the third period in franchise history.
The teams have faced off twice against each other already this season with Vegas taking both games at home, while Seattle will host Wednesday’s Game 3 and Friday’s Game 4 inside the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Golden Knights’ See-Saw Offense
It’s been a patchy month in offensive terms for the Vegas Golden Knights as they try to mount a consistent postseason challenge.
From March 6th to March 12th, the Knights averaged just 1.5 goals per game before exploding into life in the middle of the month with back-to-back five-goal efforts against the Florida Panthers and LA Kings respectively.
Since then though it’s been more of the same for this Vegas team as they failed to score any goals over two starts against the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets before exploding into life yet again with a 5.5 goals per game on average against Nashville and Chicago respectively.
“We Were Just Sick of Losing”
Goalie Chris Driedger made vocal what a lot of Kraken fans were probably feeling about their team’s inaugural season this year and their propensity for coming up short in games.
In an interview after their huge win against LA on Monday, Driedger, who made 36 saves in that game, stated the team was playing with a ton of energy right now and was “sick of losing” as the Kraken look to put back-to-back wins together for only the sixth time this season.
Seattle Kraken vs Las Vegas Golden Knights Prediction
The Vegas Golden Knights are an incredibly hard team to read right now as they continue to alternate between high-offensive outputs and basically failing to show up on offense at all in games.
We’ll go with the former later tonight however as Philipp Grubauer is expected in nets on Wednesday for the Kraken and the German really has had a tough 2021-22 season.
Grubauer ranks dead last in the league this season (71st) out of any goalie with a -25.15 GSAA average, far in excess of even Columbus goalie Joonas Korpisalo in 70th spot with -19.76, and he also owns nine really bad starts this year also (starts with a SV% below .850), which is the third-highest in the league.
Vegas is eighth in total offensive shots per game this year and third in expected goal average as well, right behind the two offensive heavyweights of Florida and Toronto, so they should be able to take full advantage of Seattle’s deficiencies on defense later tonight.
Take Las Vegas to win in regulation tonight at -110 as the play for Wednesday.
