St. Louis Blues vs Minnesota Wild Analysis
After a red-hot run over the majority of March and the start of April which saw the Wild win nine of ten games (that one loss coming via a tough OT loss to the Penguins), Minnesota was brought back to Earth pretty hard on Tuesday with a 6-2 blowout loss to the Nashville Predators.
St. Louis, meanwhile, has now won three games on the bounce and will look to take a 2-0 series lead against the Wild here on Friday in the second of their three-game series this season.
Penalties Still An Issue For Minnesota
After Nashville went 3-for-4 on power plays in Tuesday’s win over the Wild, it’s clear to see Minnesota is still struggling with the amount of penalties they are giving up this season.
The Wild are bottom-five in the league this season in terms of number of penalties given up to opponents, which has had a big effect on their goals against per game average this season also, posting a 3.06 average despite ranking second in the league on total expected goals against this year.
St. Louis Hitting Top Gear On Offense
Speaking of power plays, the St. Louis Blues are hitting all the right notes this season in terms of taking full advantage of good situations.
The Blues own the league’s third-highest power play percentage this season, along with the league’s best overall shots-to-goal percentage as well.
With the Blues averaging 4.67 goals per game across their last six starts, St. Louis is in some red-hot form offensively right now.
St. Louis Blues vs Minnesota Wild Prediction
We’re going to take the St. Louis Blues tonight at home against the Minnesota Wild.
Ville Husso is expected in nets tonight for the Blues and he’s been solid all season posting a +16.44 GSAA average along with having one of the lowest “really bad start” percentages in the league also (those starts below a .850 SV%).
On top of that, Minnesota have the fifth-highest high danger conversion rate against opponents this year and are 0-5 in their last five matchups in St. Louis.
Take the St. Louis Blues tonight at home to continue their run and register another win against the Minnesota Wild.
