St. Louis Blues vs Vegas Golden Knights Analysis

The Golden Knights enter Friday nights game against the St. Louis Blues coming off a 4-3 OT loss against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, a loss which officially eliminated them from the postseason.

St. Louis meanwhile had their winning streak snapped with a 5-3 road loss against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday but will look to rebound quickly here in order to try and secure home advantage ahead of their first round clash against Minnesota next week.

The Knights and Blues have faced off twice against each other already this season with St. Louis taking both games by comfortable multi-goal margins.

‘Blue’ Knights Head To St. Louis

With the Knights missing their first playoffs ever over their short franchise history, there’s bound to be a little despondency in the locker room ahead of Friday’s clash.

While the Knights entered the season as one of the Stanley Cup favorites, numerous injuries and absences derailed their campaign as they struggled to put any kind of momentum together over the course of the season.

Some Worrying Signs For St. Louis

While the Blues officially rank 11th in the league this season in terms of overall opponent scoring, their underlying defensive numbers haven’t been nearly as impressive and it should be a major concern for them ahead of the postseason.

Ranking dead last in the league this season on overall opponent scoring chances allowed, the Blues also rank 23rd on opponent expected goals against and 26th on high danger scoring chances allowed this season also and that has meant the Blues have relied a little too heavily on some excellent goalkeeping this season from the likes of Ville Husso who ranks top ten in the league this year.

St. Louis Blues vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction

While we never love backing heavy motivational factors ahead of these types of games, it’s very hard to see even with it being the final game of the season for Vegas, how the Golden Knights lift themselves for a big performance tonight against the Blues.

St. Louis have been absolutely superb over the last two months and come into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in all of hockey right now.

Despite their defensive issues, they should have too much for Vegas tonight and I expect them to cap off the regular season with a win at home on Friday.

Take the St. Louis Blues to win in regulation tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights.
