Tampa Bay Lightning vs Colorado Avalanche Analysis
The Colorado Avalanche absolutely routed the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-0 in Saturday’s Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead in this year’s finals heading into Monday’s Game 3 over in Tampa.
The Lightning have some reasons to be optimistic however as they’ve gone 40-15 over their last 55 home games in all and have generally responded well to lop-sided losses over these playoffs so far, coming back to win both games against the Toronto Maple Leafs after getting blown out by 3+ goals in the opening series.
The Avalanche have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams with the road team winning nine of the last thirteen also.
Colorado Perfect On The Road
While the Tampa Bay Lightning boast a formidable home record over these playoffs so far, Toronto’s Game 3 victory in the opening round being their only blemish at home of the postseason so far, that is matched here on Monday night by a perfect 7-0 road record for the Avalanche heading into tonight’s game.
Not only have the Avalanche won every game on the road over these playoffs so far, they’ve also dominated them, outscoring opponents away from home to the tune of a 36-20 goal advantage.
Lightning Desperate Ahead Of Game 3
While technically the series will still be alive should the Lightning lose on Monday night, teams down 0-3 in NHL playoff history are just 4-201 (1.95%) in coming back and eventually winning from the brink of elimination.
The Lightning will hope to use that fuel to spark a resurgence here in Game 3 on home ice as they were simply overwhelmed in Saturday’s Game 2, and will look to tighten up a defense that has given up an average of 34 shots and 5.5 goals to Colorado over the first two games of the series.
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction
While the Lightning will no doubt be circling the wagons ahead of this one and give maximum effort here on Monday night, especially at home, getting the best team in hockey right now at effectively even money looks too good to pass up.
The Lightning are two-time Stanley Cup champions for a reason however and have shown their mental fortitude in coming from behind to take series victories over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers this postseason.
However, on Monday night they face a Colorado team in absolute juggernaut form right now right across the board, with #2 playoff scoring leader Nathan MacKinnon not even getting on the scoresheet on Saturday despite the Avalanche still putting 7 goals past the Lightning.
Tampa Bay’s best effort might not be enough tonight and we’ll take a piece of the Colorado Avalanche to extend their lead to three games in Monday’s Game 3 matchup between the Avalanche and the Lightning over in Tampa.
Prediction: Colorado Avalanche Moneyline -110
