Toronto Maple Leafs vs Carolina Hurricanes Betting Analysis

After back-to-back shutout defeats across recent games against the Vegas Golden Knights and New Jersey Devils respectively, the Carolina Hurricanes bounced back with a win on Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets, and will no doubt look to make it two-from-two when they travel north of the border on Friday.

Toronto meanwhile have suffered back-to-back losses of their own over recent games, getting dropped 4-3 against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night, a game in which they gave up an early 2-0 lead, and again on Wednesday night when they came out on the wrong side of a shootout loss against the Colorado Avalanche.

This will be the second of three meetings between the two teams this season after Toronto took game one 3-1 in Carolina back in November.

Hurricanes Not Out Of Scoring Woods Yet

Despite that 5-3 win over Winnipeg on Tuesday, Carolina aren’t completely out of the woods yet, especially on offense, as they put up just 25 shots in that game against the Jets, with an empty netter right at the end putting some extra padding on the final scoreline as well.

Andrei Svechnikov’s absence will no doubt be hard to fill for Carolina moving forward this season as he sits as the Hurricanes 3rd highest scorer this year.

Samsonov Proving A Difference Maker For Toronto

With the Colorado Avalanche outshooting Toronto by double-digits in Wednesday night’s game over at the Scotiabank Arena, one man in particular stood tall as Ilya Samsonov came out of that game saving 28 of 29 shots as he continues to be rock-solid at the back this year.

Samsonov posted a 2.29 GA/G in February and sits top ten in the league in both GSAA average and quality start percentage this year also.

Both of these teams have had some offensive issues over the past week and with Samsonov, who’s due to get the start against Carolina tonight, in some solid form for the Leafs of late, we’re looking towards taking the under in this one between Carolina and Toronto on Friday.

Carolina sit as the #1 team in the league this season in defensive xGA, as well as 2nd in both goals against average and opponent high-danger conversion percentage this year also.

Toronto meanwhile is also undervalued on defense, ranking 5th in defensive scoring and 6th in defensive xGA this season as well.

We’re taking the Under 6 goals between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday over in the Scotiabank Arena.

Prediction: Under 6 (-110)
