Toronto Maple Leafs vs Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Analysis
The Tampa Bay Lightning hit the road for Game 5 of their playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday evening. The Maple Leafs now hold a 3-1 series advantage after winning their last three games. Toronto finished the regular season with a 50-21-11 while Tampa Bay posted a 46-30-6 mark. The puck drops at 7:00 PM EST/4:00 PST from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
Lightning Lose Both At Home
The Tampa Bay Lightning looked to be prepared to even the series as they held a 4-1 lead after two periods in Game 4.
However the Lightning allowed three unanswered goals in the 3rd period to eventually lose 5-4 in overtime. The Lightning offense has been great this season as they rank 8th in goals per game and 13th in shots per game.
Nikita Kucherov led the team with 113 points while ranking third in points and second in assists. Brayden Point led Tampa Bay with 51 goals, the 5th most in the NHL.
Their defense was slightly below average as they ranked 14th in goals allowed per game and 20th in shots allowed per game.
Andrei Vasilevskiy was slightly above average in net with a 34-22-4 record, 2.65 GAA and .915 save percentage. He has now allowed 19 goals through the first four games of this series.
Maple Leafs Look For Series Victory
It looked like the Toronto Maple Leafs would return home with the series knotted up 2-2 as they entered the final period down 4-1 in Game 4.
However the Leafs rallied for three unanswered goals and the third period for Alexander Kerfoot to score the game winner in overtime. Toronto ranked similar to the Lightning offensively at 9th in goals per game and 12th in shots per game.
Mitch Marner led the team with 99 points while ranking 4th in the league in assists. Auston Matthews and William Nylander each scored 40 goals. Defense was a strong point throughout the year as they ranked 7th in both goals and shots allowed.
Ilya Samsonov posted a 27-10-5 record with a 2.33 GAA and .919 save percentage. Samsonov struggled in Game 1 with six goals allowed on 29 shots but has only allowed 9 goals in the last three games resulting in victories.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Tampa Bay Lightning Expert Prediction
The Toronto Maple Leafs enter this contest as -155 favorites on the money line and +175 on the -1.5 puck line with a total set at 6.5.
This series has been loaded with high scoring games and we should expect that to continue on Thursday night. Each of the four games in this series has cleared the total while also going over in 8 of their last 10 meetings overall.
The Leafs have scored 3+ goals in each game while the Lightning have scored 3+ in three of the four games in this series.
Both sides have struggled to keep the puck out of the net and this will be another high scoring contest where the over cashes.
