Vancouver Canucks vs New Jersey Devils Betting Analysis
Two teams in some excellent form heading into this one, with the New Jersy Devils winning six of their last seven games overall and the Vancouver Canucks coming off back-to-back five-goal efforts themselves against the Seattle Kraken and Pittsburgh Penguins respectively.
Vancouver, who endured some serious third-period heartaches over recent games, getting outscored 15-2 in third-period action across their opening seven games, have finally got hot themselves in the final period, registering five goals combined over their last two third-period starts.
The two teams met twice last season with both sides claiming home-ice advantage with a win and a loss respectively.
New Jersey’s Ridiculous Data Numbers This Season
It’s not often you find a team ranking #1 in both offensive xG and defensive xGA, but that’s exactly where the New Jersey Devils rank this year, owning the league’s best overall offense and defense on the season, at least numbers-wise.
In terms of more tangible numbers, the Devils are still getting it done however, with the league’s best total shots rate on offense this season coming off a 53-shot effort against Columbus on Sunday, and owning the league’s best shots allowed rate this year on defense, along with the 4th best goals against record against opponents this season as well.
Demko Has Struggled To Start The Year
Thatcher Demko, the Canucks expected starter in nets for Tuesday, hasn’t enjoyed the same solid success rate he had last season in between the pipes for the Canucks.
Last season, Demko ranked as a top ten goalie in the league overall on total GSAA average, and had 35 registered quality starts to his name as well.
However, this year has been a lot tougher for the California native as he ranks 63rd overall on GSAA average this year along with a sub-par .143 quality start percentage also.
Vancouver Canucks vs New Jersey Devils Prediction
It’s very difficult to look past anything other than a comprehensive New Jersey Devils win here on Tuesday.
While the Canucks do come off two excellent wins against the Kraken and Penguins respectively over recent games, their underlying data numbers continue to remain unimpressive, ranking 19th on total defensive xGA this season, 23rd on total xG, and 24th on high-danger creation rate as well, a far cry from New Jersey’s impressive numbers this season.
With Demko likely getting the start in nets for the Canucks tonight as well, we’re taking the New Jersey Devils in this one to grab the road win in Canada and move to 7-3-0 on the season.
