2022-23 Premier League Golden Boot Odds

Premier League Schedule & Preview November 9-10

EPL Golden Boot Betting Odds

Liverpool’s Mo Salah has been a staple atop the Premier League’s Golden Boot table, but a newcomer from the German Bundesliga is the favorite to crash the party this season? WagerTalk soccer handicapper Kevin Dolan shares his thoughts on the Premier League’s Golden Boot betting market.

Premier League Top Scorer

Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min claimed the joint top spot last season so let’s analyze their chances along with any other contenders this season on who may take the golden boot.

Manchester City’s new star frontman Erling Haaland is the bookies’ favorite and it’s no surprise as he’s one of the most dangerous strikers on the planet right now. However, he fits onto a team that has played without a dedicated number 9 for a number of seasons now already and it may take him a while to get acclimatized to a new league, especially one as physical as the EPL, so at current odds below 4-to-1, we don’t see any value in backing the big Norwegian.

Last year’s joint winner Son Heung-Min has double-digit odds at most shops, and while that initially may seem like value, Son vastly over-performed last season ranking way down in fifth in terms of overall expected goals and we don’t see him hitting those same heights this season.

Mo Salah meanwhile has seen Sadio Mane (Salah’s main partner up front for Liverpool) leave for Bayern Munich over the summer and that’s a huge blow for this Liverpool full forward line overall as he bagged 16 goals last season and had a goal participation percentage of 21% also.

Someone has to take up that slack for Liverpool that Mane left and while recent addition Darwin Nunez is highly capable in attack, ranking as the Portuguese Primeira Liga’s top scorer last season, we’ve seen on so many occasions already highly talented players coming over to the Premier League and take time to adapt. That likely means full focus will be on Mo Salah ahead of this season to score goals and we like him to remain top goalscorer this season at odds of +500.

Premier League Assist Leader

Mo Salah had an absolutely outstanding 2021-22 season, not only in picking up the Golden Boot award, but also ranking as the league leader in overall assists as well.

Salah comes in as the third-favorite to take that crown yet again this season but Salah only ranked fourth in overall expected assists last season, and without his main partner Sadio Mane up front this year, those numbers could drop.

Manchester City’s midfield general Kevin de Bruyne is the bookies’ favorite for this season at odds of +400 and it’s not hard to see why as he carries over the second-highest expected assists overall from last year, the highest xGA per 90 minutes rating at 0.46 (Mo Salah’s was 0.32) and has one of the world’s best strikers at his disposal to feed the ball to as well in Erling Haaland.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold led the league last year in overall expected assists and he’s the bookies’ second-favorite at odds of +600 to take the top spot, but he played more games than Kevin de Bruyne last season and we like the Belgian’s odds that bit more to claim the No. 1 spot based on that league-best expected assists per 90 minutes rating.

We’re backing the favorite, Kevin de Bruyne at +400, to get the top assists spot in the Premier League this season.
