Atlanta United vs Houston Dynamo | Saturday, June 15 | 7:30pm ET
Atlanta +100 | Draw +260 | Houston +225
Asian Handicap: Atlanta -0.5 | Total: 2.75
Atlanta looks like they might be in a world of trouble over the next couple of weeks due to this summerโs international window as they have six high profile absences.
First, their backline is fully depleted as all three starters with the most minutes are gone. Luis Abram, Noah Cobb and Caleb Wiley are all away for their respective countries and their tally of 38 matches and 2,970 minutes played will be sorely missed.
The combined numbers for the rest of their defensive options includes a total of 25 matches and 1,620 minutes. Those are big voids to fill.
Additionally, starting midfielders Thiago Almada and Bartosz Slisz, along with the teamโs leading goal contributor (eight goals + assists) and starter of every match, Saba Lobjanidze, are all away as well. This will be a completely new-look team this weekend.
Compare that to Houston who is missing only one key player in Coco Carrasquilla and its clear which team should gel better on the field.
Aside from absences, Atlanta is in terrible form with just one win over their last 11 matches. They have always thrived in Mercedes-Benz Stadium and they opened the season 3-0 with a 9:1 goal differential, however, since then, they are winless in their last six home matches including five straight losses, conceding at least two goals in five of those six.
Houston is far from a strong team, especially away from home with only three wins in ten matches, but considering their defense has been solid, as they have not allowed more than two goals in any match this season, they should be able to contain a hobbled Atlanta side.
At the same time, Atlantaโs backline, whose players have not all shared the field together at the same time this season, canโt be expected to keep a clean sheet, and one goal may be all Houston needs to cash this bet.
MLS Prediction: Houston Dynamo +0.5 Double Chance (-125)
Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami | Saturday, June 15 | 7:30pm ET
Philadelphia -120 | Draw +295 | Miami +260
Asian Handicap: Philadelphia -0.5 | Total: 2.5
Back Miami here? But wait, Lionel Messi is away with Argentina for the Copa America, why on earth do we want to bet Miami without Messi?
While there is obviously no replacing Messi and what he brings to Miami just in terms of the defense having to focus so much attention on him, he is the only player with big minutes this season missing for the Herons, and they have proven they can win and get results without Messi this season.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia is without three players with major minutes and several other role players. Most notably, they too are missing their leading scorer as Daniel Gazdag (M) is away with Hungary.
Also away is Jack McGlynn (M) and Nathan Harriel (D) who both have over 1,200 minutes logged this season. Complimentary players like Jose Martinez (M) and Damion Lowe (D) only add to the holes now in the middle of the field and backline for Philly. Itโs hard to trust a team, especially one laying goals, with that many players missing in crucial spots on the pitch.
Aside from the absences, Philly has been in poor form with just one single win over their last ten matches, beating New England 3-0 which was certainly aided by a red card that was handed out in the 14โ minute. If not for that card, Philly could easily be on a ten-match winless run.
Normally solid at the back, the Union have allowed at least two goals in seven of those last ten matches and again, with all the missing players in those positions, could only make that worse.
Since being eliminated from the Champions Cup, Miami has only one loss in ten matches which surprisingly came at home to Atlanta who is not typically a good away team.
Aside from that, then can obviously score goals with the best of them and that alone has gotten them results. While Messiโs creativity will be missed, Busquets and Suarez are more than capable of handling the load and finding goals and I just donโt see Miami losing here.
MLS Prediction: Inter Miami +0.5 Double Chance (-105)
Los Angeles Galaxy at Sporting Kansas City | Saturday, June 15 | 10:30pm ET
LA Galaxy -170 | Draw +330 | Kansas City +370
Asian Handicap: LA Galaxy -1.0 | Total: 3.25
While the first two matches I previewed had a lot to do with international call-ups, this match is basically unaffected by it. Kansas City has no call-ups from their squad, so they are at full strength, while Los Angeles is only missing Jalen Neal (D) who has been on the field for just six matches this season.
So, without lineups as a factor, letโs just look at results and data from both sides. SKCโs offense isnโt very good as they average only 0.98 xG per match which is the 2nd fewest in the league and the worrisome team in terms of scoring when it comes to this bet. But they have managed to score more often than not, as they have only been held off the scoresheet twice.
But, considering the Galaxyโs defense certainly leaves something to be desired, allowing the 4th most xGA per match at 1.65 while only keeping three clean sheets, my confidence is high that SKC will be able to capitalize on at least one of their chances in this match.
On the other side, while the Galaxy have been held scoreless in three of their last eight matches, those are the only three times they have been blanked this season, and none of those have come at home where they have averaged a ridiculous 2.29 xG per match, have scored 16 goals in seven matches, and at least two in five of seven games.
SKC has lost five straight away games, allowing at least two goals in four of those five, but thatโs just on the road. Overall, they have conceded in 14 straight matches, a total of 30 goals, while keeping just one clean sheet all season.
With two suspect defenses, itโs safe to say both sides should be able to create plenty of chances. Letโs just hope they can convert those efforts.
MLS Prediction: Parlay Both Teams to Score + Over 2.5 Goals (-135)
