AFCON Final Preview
Senegal face Egypt in this year’s AFCON Final as Senegal looks to lift the cup for the very first time while Egypt looks to lift their eighth Africa Cup of Nations title, and their first since 2017.
Senegal Look to Reverse Heartbreak
This stage is something Senegal manager Aliou Cisse knows all too well as he’s lost two African Cup of Nations finals over the course of his career, once as a player and another as a manager.
However, the ‘Lions of Teranga’ are favorites here for a reason as they’ve gone unbeaten since July with each of their last three victories coming via a two-goal margin.
Egypt’s Experience Seeing them Through
The ‘Pharaoh’s’ haven’t been in the greatest goal scoring form over this cup campaign so far, netting just twice in the group stage overall and just once in regulation since the knockout round began.
However, that big game experience and ability to grind out results has seen them through, proving invaluable against the smaller nations, with Egypt’s defense giving up just two goals inside the 90 minutes all tournament, one of them a penalty.
AFCON Final: Senegal vs. Egypt Prediction
It’s hard to look past Senegal lifting their first African Cup of Nations title here on Sunday, especially with what we’ve seen from them so far in this competition.
The ‘Lions of Teranaga’ have gained momentum as the tournament has progressed, winning each of their knockout games by at least a two-goal margin, have had an extra day to prepare for this game and have beaten Egypt ‘to nil’ in both of their most recent head-to-head’s against them.
While Egypt should never be completely discounted in finals like this due to their overall experience and ability to grind out results in big games, Senegal look like the team poised to become victorious on Sunday as they’ll be the fresher team in this match and the one who’ve played the better football over this campaign as well.
