Alaves vs Sevilla Analysis
Sevilla continues its march towards a possible first domestic LaLiga title since the Second World War. Alaves, however, do come off a much needed win at home against Valencia two weeks ago and were arguably unlucky not to follow that up at the weekend with a 2-2 draw against Getafe as well.
Sevilla and Alaves drew 2-2 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan back in November, Sevilla’s home ground, with Sevilla needing a late injury-time equaliser through Ivan Rakitic to escape with a draw in that one.
Alaves’ Relegation Woes
Despite that home win against Valencia two weeks ago, that constituted Alaves’ only win in La Liga since early November as the ‘Babazorros’ continue to struggle with form this season.
Because of that, even an unlikely victory here on Friday night against an in-form Sevilla side wouldn’t see Alaves escape the relegation zone entirely and Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team need results to start coming soon if they’re going to survive another season in the Spanish top flight.
Sevilla Looking to Keep the Pressure on Madrid
Sevilla stretched their lead in second place in the league with a 2-1 derby victory against Real Betis last time out and now sit eight points clear of their third-place rivals.
However, ‘La Rojiblancos’ also sit six points off first place Real Madrid at the top as they look to chase their first domestic league title in almost 80 years.
Alaves vs Sevilla Prediction
Sevilla has already slipped up on the road against 17th-place Granada this season and needed that last-minute equalizer to secure a draw against Alaves back in the reverse fixture also, so they certainly won’t be taking anything for granted here.
And while Alaves has started to put results together recently, their form at the back this season has been dismal, allowing 1.69 goals per game to opponents this year, the league’s second-highest total, and have given up 2.25 goals per game to opponents over their previous four starts also.
While that first meeting between the pair was tight, and Sevilla fortunate that it wasn’t an outright loss in that game, Alaves have seen changes in both management and personnel since then while Sevilla have only strengthened.
While the Andalusians have been hit with some injuries of late, we nevertheless expect them to have enough firepower to overcome Deportivo Alaves here on Friday night and get the win, keeping pressure on Real Madrid at the top of the table as a result.
