Argentina vs Colombia Analysis

Huge game on Tuesday over in South America as underdogs Colombia look to put the pressure on Uruguay for the final playoff place in this year’s World Cup against an already qualified Argentinian side that have now gone an impressive 18 games unbeaten in this competition.

Colombia’s Resilient Form

Colombia have registered just one win over their last ten games in all, and with just three games left remaining to bridge a 2 point gap to 5th placed Uruguay, that’s a stat that’s going to have to change sooner rather than later for Colombia if they’re going to qualify for this year’s World Cup.

The positive note for Colombia however is that while they haven’t won many games in this competition so far, joint 2nd fewest overall, they haven’t lost many either, having the fewest losses out of any team over this World Cup campaign not named Brazil or Argentina.

They’ll look to continue that resilient form here on Tuesday against an Argentinian side that haven’t beaten them in regulation across any of their last four head-to-head’s.

Argentina Not Content

Argentina will enter Tuesday’s game with a host of Covid-related squad issues, but with qualification already secured to this year’s World Cup, this fixture should provide a good opportunity to run out some fresh faces here for manager Lionel Scaloni.

As Friday’s victory against Chile proved however, Argentina aren’t simply resting on their laurels and have continued to push for victories despite their qualification already assured to November’s big dance in Qatar.

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez in particular is in fine form for Argentina, bagging 6 goals already this campaign, 3rd most out of any player in this competition, and scored in his last head-to-head clash against Colombia as well.

Argentina vs Colombia Prediction

Colombia has failed to score a single goal across any of their last six matchups in qualification, and that doesn’t bode well for them here against an Argentinian defense that’s given up just 0.29 goals per game to opponents at home this campaign, the 2nd fewest out of any team in the competition, so that dry spell looks set to continue here for Colombia on Tuesday.

However, while the Colombians may have struggled in front of goal this campaign, they’ve also been extremely resilient in churning out results as well, and the fact that they’re even still in this competition with the 2nd fewest wins is testament to how difficult they’ve been to breakdown for opponents.

Argentina have personnel issues ahead of Tuesday’s clash, and despite their eagerness to always top rivals Brazil, Colombia are the side with maximum motivation to grind out a result in this one.

With Colombia’s issues in front of goal, Argentina’s defensive strength’s and Colombia’s need to get a result here on Tuesday, the Under 2.25 goals, outright Draw at +230 and correct score 1-1 at a healthy +525 all present value in what should be a heated World Cup Qualifier clash between Colombia and Argentina on Tuesday.
