Atalanta vs Torino Analysis
Gian Piero Gasperini will no doubt be happy with the way his Atalanta side have started the new Serie A season, banking seven points from a possible nine to start the year with their only slip-up of the season so far coming against defending champions AC Milan back in Match Day 2 via a 1-1 draw.
Torino is hot on their heels this season, however, with the Bulls only getting edged out by Atalanta on goal difference,. Torino has faced a notably easier schedule to start the year, with both of the bottom two clubs, Cremonese and Monza, making up Torino’s only two victories to date this season.
Torino Maintain Defensive Presence
Torino has opened up the new season doing what they do best, getting it done on the defensive end allowing just two goals all year along while having the league’s sixth-best defensive xGA rating.
That follows on from last season where the Bulls allowed two or more goals in just two of their last 16 matches overall.
Atalanta Looks For Massive Rebound From Last Season
It was a disappointing campaign for ‘La Dea’ last year, with Atalanta winning just five of their final 21 games of the season to ultimately drop out of contention for a European place for the first time in four seasons.
Home form remains an issue for this team, with Atalanta failing to win any of their previous seven league games in Gewiss Stadium.
Atalanta vs Torino Prediction
This has been a fixture that historically at least has combined to be one of the most exciting in Serie A.
Both Torino and Atalanta have combined to score 37 goals over their last seven meetings, an average of 5.3 goals per game.
Atalanta has definitely regressed in terms of their former attacking threat, but remains vulnerable defensively. This has been an amplified issue at home where they continue to struggle. We can’t pass up the opportunity of taking Torino +0.75 on the Asian handicap in this one to engineer yet another result on the road in Bergamo.
We expect the Bulls to cause the home side all sorts of problems in this one so take Torino +0.75 as your play for Thursday’s matchup over in Serie A.
